POKHARA UNIVERSIT Y

Level: Bachelor Semester: Spring Year : 2024

Programme: BE Full Marks: 100
Course: Engineering Mathematics III Pass Marks: 45
Time : 3 hrs.
Candidates are required to give their answers in their own words as far
as practicable.
The figures in the margin indicate full marks.
Attempt all the questions.
1. a) Define consistency and inconsistency of a system of linear equations. 7
Check the consistence of a system of linear equations,
5x + 3y + 7z = 4, 3x + 26y + 2z = 9 and 7x + 2y + 10z = 5 and solve it
if possible.
b) Define eigen values and eigen vector of a square matrix. Determine 8
eigen values and eigen vectors of the matrix:
3 5 3
A = 0 1 6.
0 0 1
2. a) A particle moves along the curve x = e–t, y = 2 cos 3t, z = 2 sin 3t, 7
where t is the time. Determine its velocity and acceleration vectors
and also the magnitude of velocity and acceleration at t = 0.
.
b) State Green's theorem. Evaluate ∮𝑐[5𝑥𝑦𝑑𝑥 + 𝑥 3 𝑑𝑦], where C is the 8
closed curve consisting of the graph of y = x2 and y = 2x between the
points (0, 0) and (2, 4).
3.   → 7
a) 
Evaluate, F . n dA , where F = (18z, – 12, 3y) and S is the surface
S

of the plane 2x + 3y + 6z = 12 in the first octant.

.
b) State Stokes theorem. Using this theorem, evaluate ∮𝑐 𝐹⃗ . ⃗⃗⃗⃗⃗
𝑑𝑟, where 8
𝐹⃗ = (𝑦 3 , 0, 𝑥 3 ) and C is the boundary of the triangle with vertices
(1, 0, 0), (0, 1, 0) and (0, 0, 1).
OR
Using divergence theorem, find ∬𝑆 𝐹⃗ . 𝑛⃗⃗𝑑𝐴 where 𝐹⃗ = 𝑦 2 𝑒 𝑧 𝑖⃗ −
𝑥𝑦𝑗⃗ + 𝑥𝑡𝑎𝑛−1 𝑦 𝑘⃗⃗ and S is the surface of the region bounded by the
coordinate planes and the plane x + y + z = 1.

𝑛=1 𝑛𝑝 is convergent if p > 1 and
7
divergent if 0 < p ≤ 1.
b) Find the interval of convergence, center of convergence and radius of 8
𝑥 𝑛 10𝑛+1
convergence of the power series ∑∞

8𝑥1 + 5𝑥2 + 4𝑥3 ≤ 12, 𝑥1 ≥ 0, 𝑥2 ≥ 0, 𝑥3 ≥ 0.
b) Convert the given primal LPP into dual LPP and solve by using 8
simplex method. Minimize Z = 8x1 + 9x2 subject to x1 + x2 > 5,
3x1 + x2 > 21, x1 > 0, x2 ≥ 0.
