PLAN OF INVESTIGATION
In 2019, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published a
report warning that rising global temperatures are leading to more frequent and intense natural
disasters, such as hurricanes, droughts, and wildfires. The report also emphasized that human
activities, particularly deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels, are accelerating these
changes, threatening biodiversity and food security.
Similarly, a study conducted by the National Climate Research Institute in 2021 found that
coastal communities are at increased risk due to rising sea levels, which could lead to
displacement and economic instability. Experts warn that without immediate action to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions and invest in sustainable solutions, the consequences will be
irreversible.
An article published in the Global Environmental Review on September 10, 2018, before the
Paris Agreement enforcement, warned:
“We must take urgent and decisive action to combat climate change. Governments, businesses,
and individuals all have a role to play in reducing carbon emissions. Policies promoting
renewable energy, reforestation efforts, and sustainable urban planning should be prioritized.
Without global cooperation, the health of our planet and future generations remains at risk.
Reflection 1
Through my research, I have gained a deeper understanding of how climate change affects the
environment and agriculture. I chose this focus because I wanted to explore the effects of rising
temperatures, stronger hurricanes, and sea level rise on the Caribbean.
Watching the documentary Before the Flood helped me realize the urgency of addressing climate
change, as experts warned that inaction could threaten global food production and economies.
Additionally, a YouTube video, Climate Change Could Affect Global Agriculture Within 10
Years, showed real-life struggles of farmers dealing with unpredictable weather, reinforcing the
impact of climate change on food security.

Reflection 2
Reflection 3
With the completion of my SBA, I have grown both academically and personally. Through my
research on the effects of climate change on agriculture, I have enhanced my research skills,
learning to identify credible sources and analyze information effectively. I now understand how
rising temperatures and extreme weather impact food production, deepening my awareness of
environmental issues by climate change.
Additionally, my language skills have improved through writing reflections and summarizing
key points. I have learned to use persuasive techniques, such as quotations and statistics, to
strengthen arguments. My critical thinking has also developed as I evaluated different
perspectives.
The process has also strengthened my social and interpersonal skills, teaching me collaboration,
effective communication, and time management. Balancing deadlines required careful planning
and discipline. Overall, this experience has improved my writing, research, and organizational
skills, preparing me for future academic and professional challenges while increasing my
awareness of sustainability.
Group Written Report
Starting this group SBA was a bit challenging for us but having our teacher to guide us through
made it an easier task to complete knowing that we had our teacher's guidance, as we sat together
deciding our group topic then branching off on our own creating our sub topics individually. The
sub topics that were chosen are ‘how climate change affects agriculture, how agriculture reduces
poverty in rural areas, urban agriculture and the advantages of trees’.
After finalizing our research areas, we conducted individual research using online articles,
videos, documentaries and reports to gather relevant information. Our comprehensive writing
skills were tested during this study, but further improved with the help of our teacher. Our
collaboration skills were also greatly improved because of the direct communication we needed
to have with our group members to deepen our knowledge of the main topic “Agriculture”.
Theme: Agriculture
Main Idea: To learn the effects of climate change have on agriculture as it poses a grave
threat to agriculture.
