Science Lab Safety Contract


Please read and make sure you understand the safety rules below.

● Know the location of safety and first aid equipment, including fire extinguisher, safety
shower, fire blanket and eye wash.
● Know the possible hazards for each experiment before conducting it.
● Goggles and gloves MUST be worn at all times during lab when instructed.
● Follow instructions exactly as given by the teacher.
● If you do not understand any instructions or procedures, ask before you engage in the
activity.
● Always prepare for an experiment by reading the directions and labels before
beginning a lab.
● Once at a lab station, remain there unless obtaining supplies / cleaning. Always stay
on task and use caution, no goofing/wandering around.
● Performing only authorized and approved experiments. DO NOT do your own
experimenting unless instructed to do so.
● Never eat on or drink from laboratory glassware. You should not eat, drink or chew
gum during labs. Do not ever taste any lab substances, do use proper smelling
techniques.
● Examine all equipment for malfunction, cracks, or other defects before beginning. The
teacher will replace if needed.
● Report all accidents, no matter how minor, to your teacher immediately.
● Dispose of waste properly. Do not put matches in the sink or trash can. Your teacher
will tell you the proper way to dispose of the chemicals/ materials.
● Wash hands at the end of each lab
● Clean up all lab equipment and work areas as directed. Replace items you used. Sit
down and wait for further instructions. Do not wander around the room.
REMEMBER…….SAFETY FIRST!!!!

I realize that I must follow these rules to ensure not only my own safety, but also the safety
of others. I will cooperate to the fullest extent with my teacher and fellow students to
maintain a safe lab environment. I understand that my failure to follow the rules may result in
being removed from the laboratory, detention, receiving a failing grade for the lab activity.
