How to properly and safely remove and install a DC power cable and connector.
Lesson 1 of 1

How to properly and safely remove and install a DC

power cable and connector.

When handling DC power cables, there are procedures that first

need to be completed by a licensed electrician.

Once an electrician attaches the wires to the DC power block and

connector, it can be plugged and unplugged like a normal AC power
cable.

Activities to be completed by a Licensed Electrician:

DC Power block.

The DC power cables need to be connected to the DC power block/connector.

Activities to be completed by Dell Service Provider:

Pull the DC power block.

To disconnect power from a DC power supply:

1. Power down the PowerEdge server. Wait for server to completely power off.

2. Locate the DC power supplies on the server. Server can have multiple PSUs.

Pull the DC power block.

3. Pull the DC power block (do not pull the cables) straight back away from the PSU until loose from the
server. Repeat for additional PSUs as needed.
Optional ground cable.

4. Once the power cable is removed, you can remove the nut securing the ground cable and remove from
the PSU.

5. With all DC power blocks and optional ground cables disconnected, engineers may now begin service
on the server.

To connect power to a DC power supply:

1 Optional ground cable: Locate ground cable (previously removed).

Attach ground cable eyelet over the ground screw and secure using the nut
2
(previously removed).

3 Locate the DC power block(s) (previously removed) to plug into the PSU’s.
Plug in the DC power block firmly into the PSU. Repeat for all power
4
supplies.

5 Ensure that both lights on the PDU’s light up GREEN. This may take up to
15 seconds.

Engineers may now power on the server.
