3. (a) A tank contains 10 kg of salt dissolved in 100 litres of water. Water enters the tank
at a rate of 10 litres per minute. The solution is kept thoroughly mixed and drains
from the tank at the same rate. How much salt is in the tank after 30 minutes.
(b) Explain the difference between a definite integral and an indefinite integral.

4. (a) Find the least squares regression line y = ax + b, given the data points in the table
below:
x 0 1 2 4
y 0 2 0 2
Recall that the slope and intercept are given by:
xy − x y
a= and b = y − ax.
x2 − (x)2

Give your answers in fractional form. Hence sketch the line.

(b) A particle moves on a line so that its velocity at time t is v(t) = t2 − t − 6.
(i) Find the displacement of the particle during the time period 1 6 t 6 4.
(ii) Comment on the result.

5. (a) The region R enclosed by the graphs of y = x and y = x2 is rotated about the
x-axis. Find the volume of the resulting solid. Sketch the region R.
