3. Roses cost GHc12 a bunch and carnations cost GHc14 a bunch. A trader buys altogether 11
bunches for GHc138. How many of each bunch did he buy?
ANSWER: 8 bunches of roses, 3 bunches of carnations
[12x + 14y = 138, x + y = 11, y = 11 – x, 12x + 14(11 – x) = 138, 2x = 154 -138 = 16, x = 8 , y = 3]
