Sustainable transportation

You all have heard about transportation, right? so now what Is sustainable transportation?

• Sustainable transportation is an eco-friendly travel like using electric vehicles, public


transit, cycling and walking method to reduce emission and save energy.
• In Sri Lanka, driving on narrow, busy roads uses a lot of fuel and releases high carbon
emissions. Thankfully, there are now many energy-saving vehicle options available,
which help reduce fuel consumption and lower emissions.

There are several key actions we can take to promote sustainable transportation:

 First, switching to electric or hybrid vehicles, or driving fuel-efficient cars, can


significantly cut down on fossil fuel use.
 Supporting research into green fuels and using solar-powered vehicles are also effective
solutions.
 Energy-efficient marine transport is another emerging area.
 Finally, promoting 'Park & Ride' systems and encouraging more use of bicycles can
further reduce our carbon footprint.

By adopting these practices, we can contribute to a greener, more energy-efficient future."


Actions that can be taken in School

 School is one of the significant places where energy waste occurs in a massive amount.
Mostly due to the careless of labors and student

 We can implement some strategies to minimize wastage of energy at school too

Waste Reduction: Encourage digital learning to reduce paper use. Implement recycling
programs and promote using reusable items in classrooms to minimize waste.

Interactive Learning Projects: Engage students in eco-friendly projects like recycling drives or
energy-saving challenges. Hands-on activities make learning about sustainability fun and
practical.

Educational Initiatives: Incorporate sustainability into the curriculum. Teach students about
climate change, conservation, and responsible resource use to build awareness from an early age.

Outdoor Learning Spaces: Utilize outdoor environments for lessons, allowing students to
experience nature firsthand while learning about ecosystems, biodiversity, and environmental
stewardship.
