Unit 2 Project

The document outlines an Analytical Geometry project where students work in groups to create either a 3D model fitting in a 5cm cube or a unique geometric art piece. Students must design their project using a coordinate system and demonstrate various analytical geometric properties through calculations. The submission requirements include a 2D representation, a statement of properties, calculations, and the final art piece, with a rubric provided for assessment.

MPM2DP Date:_______

Analytical Geometry Project:

Task:
In groups of 2 or 3 choose between:

1. Construct a 3D Model to fit in a 5cm cube.

In the past we have done plants and chess pieces. I am leaving it up to you to decide where you
want to go with your 3D model. AutoCad Web is available to students for creating your 3D
piece. Students have also used other softwares.

2. Geometric Art Piece

Examples of geometric art can be found in the classroom. You can also draw inspiration from
google however, you must create a unique piece. You may use computer software for this or
do it by hand.

The Math:
- You will create your initial 2D design on a coordinate system.
- When creating your design you should consider analytical geometric properties or concepts.
- These geometric properties will be proven when creating your piece using coordinates. The
items from the focus list that you are proving must be evident in your design.

Focus List for Calculations and levels:

Level 1 Level 2
★ Length of sides ★ Altitudes
★ Midpoints ★ Perpendicular bisectors
★ Slope ★ Median

Level 3 Level 4
★ Properties of Quadrilaterals ★ 2 different level 3 Concepts
★ Properties of Triangles
★ Shapes formed inside another shape by joining midpoints Level 4+
★ Centroid ★ Level 4 Criteria AND items are
★ Properties of Circles included that go beyond the
scope of the focus list.

To be Submitted:

The 2D representation of your design on a coordinate system. Desmos may be used.

A statement of the properties in your design and the set of calculations proving the properties listed.
The final art piece or printed item
*Note* the file can be shared with me for printing.
Level 1 Example:
● Submission only includes a midpoint calculation

Level 2 Example:
● Submission includes a proven equation of a right bisector that is present within the design.

Level 3 Example:
● Submission includes the proof of a rectangle that is present within the design.

Level 4 Example:
● Submission includes the proof of a rectangle and an isosceles triangle that is present within the design.

Rubric Level 4+ 4 3 2 1

Mark 10 9 8 6 5
[T, A] Final product is complete and includes a statement describing the
properties, all needed drawings and appropriate calculations verifying your
property.

[T] Level of properties proven on the focus list.

[C] Appropriate calculations are neatly written, properly structured, and follow all
mathematical conventions. The final product is neat, easy to read, and presented
clearly

[K, A] All calculations are correct.

[K] All criteria from the assignment sheet has been included in the final
submission.

[T, C] Creativity is used in the design of the product giving it a unique character.
