960/2 Trial STPM 2013

SMK Seri Ampangan
Section A [15 marks]
1. D

Direction of both electric force; F SR & FST which act on S are toward left

2. C

3. C

For parallel plate capacitor

0A A
C0  and C 
d d

Since ε >  0 , thus C > C 0

Q = CV
Since Q = constant, increase in C will result in decrease in V.

4. A

C = 1μF = V

q = CV

= (1  10 6 )(10) = 2.5 V

= 105 C

5. A

For the first wire:

1
I  r 2 nve

For the second wire:

I  4r 2 nv ' e

Since I is constant, hence

I  r 2 nve  4r 2 nv ' e

1
v'  v

6. C

When the temperature increases, metal ions will vibrate with greater amplitude and hence
will block the flow of free electrons.

7. B

R XY  5.00

8. C

V AB  IR

R  10 4 

9. C

Fattraction ( P  R )   1.0 x10 6 Nm 1
2
Frepulsion ( Q  R )  2 x 2.0 x10 6  4.0 x10 6 Nm 1

Hence resultant force per unit length = (4.0 -1.0)x10-6= 3.0 x 10 -6 Nm-1

11. B

B  o nI
Since the permeability  for the pure iron core is greater than o , hence B is strengthened.

12. D

13. D

I '  2 I o sin 2 2 f t  2 I o sin 2t

14. A

D.c. current and root-mean-square value of a.c. current of the same value will produce the
same heating effect through the same resistor (fuse).

P=I2R but not using P=VI. This is because I must pass through R.

15. C

Mean power = ½ I o2 R = ½(3) 2 (10) = 45 W

20. (a) Faraday’s law states that the induced e.m.f. is directly proportional to the rate of
change of magnetic flux. [1]
When an alternating potential difference is connected across a coil, a magnetic field is
produced in the coil. [1]
The alternating current in the coil causes the magnetic field produced to be constantly
changing. [1]
By Faraday’s law, this change of magnetic flux linkage experienced by the coil causes an
induced e.m.f. in the coil. [1]
By Lenz’s law, the direction of the induced e.m.f. ( back e.m.f.) tends to oppose the change
that causes its production. [1]
