Proportionality

The document outlines key properties of triangles related to parallel lines and area, stating that triangles with equal heights have areas proportional to their bases, and those with equal bases have equal areas. It also discusses the proportional theorem and midpoint theorem, explaining how lines drawn parallel to one side of a triangle can divide the other sides proportionally. Additionally, it includes converse statements that establish relationships between triangle sides and parallel lines.

AREA OF TRIANGLES

If triangles lie between the same parallel lines, they have the same height

1 Triangles with equal heights have areas which are proportional to their bases.

2 Triangles with equal bases and between the same parallel lines have equal areas

3 Converse (proving parallel lines): Triangles on the same side of the same base and
equal in area, lie between parallel lines.
