(b) 50 g of glucose is dissolved in 450 g of water. Calculate the concentration in terms of mass by
mass percentage of glucose solution.

Q.36 (a) Define second law of motion and derive formula of force using this law.
Answer:Newton’s second law of motion states that the force exerted by a body is directly
proportional to the rate of change of its momentum. For a body of mass ‘m’, whose velocity changes
from u to v in time t, when force ‘F’ is applied.

(b) A bullet of mass 20 g travelling horizontally with a velocity of 150 ms-1 strikes a stationary wooden
block and comes to rest in 0.03 s. Calculate the distance of penetration of the bullet into the block.
Also, calculate the magnitude of the force exerted by the wooden block on the bullet.
Answer:
Explanation: Mass of the bullet, m = 20 g = 0.02 kg

It is given that the bullet is travelling with a velocity of 150 m/s.

Thus, when the bullet enters the block, its velocity = Initial velocity, u = 150 m/s

Final velocity, v = 0 (since the bullet finally comes to rest)

Time taken to come to rest, t = 0.03 s

According to the first equation of motion,

v = u + at

where , a is the acceleration of the bullet

0 = 150 + (a × 0.03)

a=-5000 m/s2

Concept Note:- Negative sign indicates that the velocity of the bullet is decreasing.

According to the third equation of motion:

v^2 = u^2 + 2as

0 = (150)^2+ 2×(-5000)×s

0 = 22500 + 2×(-5000)×s

0=22500 – 10000 s

10000 s = 22500

Hence, the distance of penetration of the bullet into the block is 2.25 m.

From Newton’s second law of motion:

Concept Note:- Force, F = Mass Acceleration

Mass of the bullet, m = 0.02 kg

Acceleration of the bullet, a = -5000 m/s2

F = ma = 0.02×(-5000) = -100 N

Hence, the magnitude of force exerted by the wooden block on the bullet is 100 N.

Q.37 Animal tissues are of many types such as epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscular tissue
and nervous tissue. Blood is a type of connective tissue, and muscle forms muscular tissue. The
nature of the matrix differs in concordance with the function of the particular connective tissue.

Q.38 Read the text carefully and answer the questions:

Figure shows a watch glass embedded in clay. A tiny spherical ball is placed at the edge B at a height
h above the centre A.

(a)Name and define the energy possessed by ball at point C.

Answer: Potential Energy
Potential energy is the energy possessed by a body by virtue of its position or state.
(b)A freely falling object eventually stops on reaching the ground. What happens to its kinetic
energy?
When a freely falling object hits the ground, its kinetic energy is converted into heat and sound
energy. The object may also deform the ground.
(c )An object of mass, m is moving with a constant velocity, v. How much work should be done on the
object in order to bring the object to rest? Justify.
Answer:
Mass = m, Velocity = v
Then,
Initial K.E. = 1/2 mv^2
Final K.E. after object comes to rest
Final K.E. = 0
Hence,
From the work-energy theorem
Work done = Change in kinetic energy

= Final K.E - Initial K.E

= 0 - 1/2 mv^2

= - 1/2 mv^2
OR
(c ) Certain force acting on a 16 kg mass changes its velocity from 3 m/ s to 8 m/s. Calculate the work
done by the force.
Answer:Given : Initial velocity : 3 m/s
Final velocity: 8 m/s
W= 1/2 m(v^2-u^2)
W=1/2x 16(64-9)
W=8x55= 440 N

Q.39 Ankita wanted to eat rice and kidney beans(Rajmah).She asked her mother to cook the same
for lunch tomorrow. At night, her mother took a cup of kidney beans and put them in container
having some water. She kept the container covered overnight. Next morning ,She cooked rice and
kidney beans for lunch.
Ankita asked her mother the following questions:
a) Why did you soak kidney beans in water overnight?
Answer:Kidney beans are seed and each cell of it is covered with porous cell wall and semi
permeable plasma membrane. By the process of endosmosis, water is diffused in kidney beans upon
soaking overnight and they get swollen and become palatable after cooking.
b) Name at least one more food item that is cooked in this way.
Answer:Black Gram
c) Name and explain the scientific phenomenon involved in above process.
Answer:Osmosis is the process by which water molecules move through a semipermeable
membrane from a less concentrated area to a more concentrated area.

OR

( c) What are the various factors that affect the rate of osmosis?(Any two)

Answer: Temperature, Surface area,Water concentration, Pressure.
