Pattern info
This booklet is meant to be free—please do not sell it. It is updated from time to time, so be
sure to check this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XLA7MyjP2HDoGOP3y7lE7JVGe2-1hjIg/
view?usp=sharing for the latest version. The first version was called Sylvanian Families Clothes
Sewing Patterns, but it is now Sewing Patterns for Sylvanian Families Clothes, with an updated
version number for each change.

I have not been able to test all the patterns, as there are quite a lot. Feel free to give me any
feedback at nessinf@live.com My goal is to collect all the patterns floating around the internet and
compile them into one easy-to-find booklet (this one). I translate everything I can and try to restore
all patterns to the correct measurements.

Instructions
If you are not familiar with overlapping patterns on a page: this is an old technique to save paper.
Print the booklet on A4 size and check if the scaling is correct by using a ruler to measure the
guide on top of each pattern page. Then, take tracing paper—or alternatively, parchment paper—
and trace only the pattern you want to make. Everything that belongs together is marked in the
same color.
The different lines are illustrated in the top right corner, and mean the following:
• Front middle: This is the center line of the pattern and should align with the center front of the
garment when sewn.
• Sewing needle: This marks a line where you will need to sew.
• Press: This is a line that needs to be pressed open or folded, as indicated in the pattern
instructions.
• Scissors: This marks a cutting line. Cutting lines are the only continuous lines in the pattern.
• Place on fold: Fold the fabric, ensuring the pattern fits on both sides, and align this line with
the fold. This ensures that when you cut along the cutting lines and unfold the fabric, you get a
symmetrical, full piece. Patterns with these lines represent only half of the final shape.
• Sudden gap in cutting line: This marks where the pattern needs to be extended. The right
size should be written on the pattern.
• Button location: This marks where a button should be placed.
Images for the instructions should be read left to right, like a comic strip.

are still open. Stitch the last open bottom

Ballroom dress Ballroom dress
Shiny fabric works best for a ballroom gown.
Avoid fabrics that fray easily, as there are no
planned hems at the top or bottom edges of the
dress.
1: Trace and cut out the pattern on paper. It
consists of two pieces: skirt and top. Fold the
fabric in half.
2: Align the ‘place on fold’ line with the fold.
The weave of the fabric should be in the same
direction as the arrow on the pattern indicates.
Pin all three layers (pattern and the folded
fabric) together to ensure nothing moves.
3: Cut the fabric, fold open.
4: Start by gathering the top of the skirt so that
its width matches the width of the dress top’s
lower edge. To do this, sew two rows of loose
basting stitches: one slightly above the seam
line and the other slightly below.
5: Pull both threads at the same time to gather
the fabric and evenly distribute the gathers.
Secure the gathered top (right sides together)
using three pins: one at each end and one in
the middle, aligning with the fabric folds from
the cutting stage. Once the gathers are evenly
spread, sew the seam. You can also overlock
the fabrics together at this point.
6: To secure the seam, topstitch it in place.
Normally, you would fold the seam allowance
up and stitch along the bottom of the corset.
However, since my fabric was thick, I did
the opposite—I folded the seam allowance
downward and stitched along the top of the
skirt.
7: Next, sew the back seam allowances,
stitching the lower part together at a variable
length depending on your Sylvanian’s tail.
Since my fabric frayed, I overlocked the bottom
edge of the dress for extra security.
8: Decorate the dress! This step allows for
creativity. Feel free to customize the dress
however you like. Start by attaching lace, trim,
or organza ribbon with embroidered flowers
or beads along the bottom edge of the dress.
Then, move on to decorating the bodice. I
secured the center of the trim at the top front
and its ends at the back openings, which
creates arm openings.
9: I initially planned to use a small snap button,
but Belinda’s tail got in the way. Instead, I opted
for a ribbon closure: Cut two ribbon pieces.
Attach one end of each ribbon to either side of
the back opening. Tie together.

Tutorials - 5
Writer’s tailcoat notches next to the seam.
4: Glue the collar to the tailcoat. Wait for the
glue to dry. You can add stitches, but you don’t
have to.
5: Once the glue is dry, fold the jacket right
sides together (with the collar inside) along the
shoulder line. Carefully align the edges and pin
them in place.
6: Sew the side seams and underarm seams
(marked as dotted lines on the pattern).
7: Clip the seam allowance at the corners with
a small diagonal snip to reduce bulk. (Indicated
on the pattern)
8: Turn the jacket right-side out. Sew the
button(s) at the location marked by a cross on
the pattern.

Gilet

Gilet
1: Cut the fabric according to the pattern
2: Fold the fabric over the fold line. Sew the
sides in place.
3: Attach the martingale (at the top of the back
slit, centered) by sewing a small button or bead
at the spots marked by circles on the pattern.
4: Secure the collar lapel points in place the
same way.
Writer’s tailcoat
Felt works best for this coat. Avoid fabrics that

top or bottom edges of the dress.

2: Place the back and front pieces on top of
each other and sew the top seams. Be sure to
use a seam allowance of about 5 mm. Make
sure the right side is inside, not out.
3: Fold open to check the seams.
4: On the wrong side, sew along the entire
collar with a seam allowance of about 3-5 mm.
5: Fold the ends of the collar pieces and sew
them in place using a 3 mm seam allowance.
Then, fold the collar in half lengthwise and sew
along the bottom with a 3 mm seam allowance.
You should now have a 1 cm x 4.5 cm collar
piece, with the left, top, and right sides neatly
hemmed.
6: Place the collar against the neckline, starting
from the center of the shirt. Sew it in place
along the existing seam, using a 3 mm seam
allowance. Do the same for the other side.
7: Hem all around the shirt.
8: Sew the sides together, making sure to leave
a gap of about 1 cm for the arm openings.
9: Add a closure to the back. You can now
decorate it however you like!

This is made in the same way as the dress

Kimono girls
1: Do the same as the boy’s kimono, just leave

kimono that isn’t in the boy’s version. Plus, it’s
a little longer.

Ribbon dress
This dress was originally designed to be made
from a piece of ribbon, but I have modified
the pattern so it can also be sewn from any
other fabric. If you want to use ribbon, choose
one that is 35mm wide and ignore the seam
allowances.
1: Trace and cut out the pattern on paper.
It consists of two pieces: top and bottom.
The bottom piece needs to be lengthened to
146mm (or 140mm for ribbon).
2: Cut the fabric. Fold the seam allowances for
the bottom part and sew them in place. Then
sew a creasing stitch 1mm from the edge.
When creased, it should measure 95mm (see
Jacket tutorial image 1).

Bonnet and cape

Bonnet and cape

The garments can be made from felt, but here I
chose fleece, which is a bit thicker and softer.

Cape:
1: Cut the fabric following the pattern.
2: Thread a ribbon through a needle and stitch
from the outside to the inside at one marker,
then stitch from the inside to the outside at the
other marker.

Bonnet:
1: Cut two bonnet shapes and the pompom
shape
2: Cut the fringes of the pompom, roll up the
rectangle tightly, and secure the “roll” with a few
stitches at the base.
3: Lay one bonnet piece right side up on your
work surface, place the pompom upside down
so that its base slightly extends past the top
center of the bonnet, then place the second
bonnet piece on top wrong side up (so the two
right sides are facing each other).
4: Sew along the dotted lines on the pattern,
making sure to catch all layers at the top.
5: Turn the bonnet right side out and trim the
fringes if necessary.
Note: Adjust the bonnet size depending on your Swimsuit women
baby doll’s head size and ear length. Materials:
• 2 pieces of wide ribbon, approximately 60-
70mm long and 10mm wide

10 - Tutorials
• 1 piece of ribbon, approximately 300mm
long and 3mm wide
Shirt, dress, pants baby
• 1 piece of ruffled elastic, approximately
90mm long and 17-20mm wide
• 1 needle threaded with matching thread
• 1 pair of scissors
• (1 yarn needle, optional)

Instructions:
1: Sew the seam to close the skirt.
2: Adjust the length of the “bottom panel”
ribbon, allowing for a 5 mm fold at each end.
Sew this ribbon in place with a few stitches at
the center front and center back, securing it to
the elastic.
3: For the top, take the other wide ribbon. Fold
one end toward the center, extending it about
5mm past the middle, and secure it with a few
stitches at the center of the chest.
6: Do the same on the other side (remembering
to fold the edge neatly), gathering the fabric as
you sew. The width of the top should match the
chest width.
7: Hide the stitches at the center of the chest
by either tying a ribbon bow, wrapping sewing
thread around the center multiple times
before knotting it on the back, or attaching a
decorative bead or button. Here, I chose a
ribbon rose
8: Finally, thread the thin ribbon through the two
“loops” formed on each side of the bandeau.
Using a yarn needle makes this easier.
Note: The top can be tied either behind the
neck or at the center of the back.

For the pants:

3: Fold the two outer flaps on top of each other
and sew in place.
4: fold inwards and cover with the middle flap,
sew in place.
5: Add a piece of elastic to the top of the
Shirt, dress, pants for poseable babies backside, to ensure the pants close.
1: Trace and cut out the pattern on paper.
2: Cut the fabric. The pattern may be hard to
pin in place, so tracing it instead might work
better.

For the shirt/dress:

3: Apply any decorations you would like
4: Fold the fabric over the fold lines, sew the
indicated seams.
5: Add a button or Velcro to the back.

Elf costume children 2: Cut the fabric. There are four pieces, but
cut the pants twice. You will end up with five
pieces: shirt, hat, collar, and two pants pieces.

For the shirt

3: Make a few slip stitches along the length
of the armholes, pulling the thread slightly
to create gentle gathers. Then sew the side
seams, leaving some space for the arms. This
step is shown in tutorial image two, with one
half of the shirt gathered and sewn, and the
other half still being gathered.
4: Attach the belt - use a piece of ribbon or
make another piece of felt.
5: To create a belt buckle, cut a rectangle of
felt about 6 mm wider than the belt. Cut out the
center and attach it to the belt using glue or
stitches.
6: Sew a snap button at the top of the back
opening.
7: Optional: attach the collar to the shirt. If
you leave the collar out, you will have a dwarf
costume instead.

For the pants:

3: If making them from fabric, add a 5 mm
seam allowance at the bottom for hemming.
Layer the two pant pieces together and make
a small cut at the notch. Sew the front center
seam up to the notch.
4: Sew the upper back hem on the top piece
and then sew the back seam, inserting the end
of a suspender strap. Repeat the same step
with the other back piece (the one underneath).
5: Sew the upper front hem.
6: Turn the pants inside out, align the center
seams, and sew the side seams.
7: Turn the pants right side out. Sew the free
ends of the suspenders to the front of the
pants.

For the hat:

3: Sew the back seam.
4: Turn the hat right side out. Attach a jingle bell
to the tip if desired.

Peplum dress adults to sew the bias tape right sides together along
the neckline edge (3 mm). The bias tape stays
straight, and it’s the bodice that will be moved.
5: Notch the seam allowance to allow for ease.
6: Fold the bias tape to the inside and stitch
along the edge of the neckline, on the right
side. This results in a neat neckline.
7: Hem the outside of the entire bodice, but
leave the back hems (where the velcro will go)
unfinished. Also hem the skirt and peplum.
8: Fold the back of the bodice to the back,
with the right side facing inwards, then sew
the sides together, making sure to leave the
armholes open.

For the bodice without sleeves:

Leave out the bias tape and the folding. Cut the
pattern out twice. Put on top of each other, right
side inwards, and sew the top seams together.
Cut off the corners, then fold right side out
and proceed. Add ribbons or lace to make arm
openings.

9: Place the peplum on top of the skirt (with

both right sides facing the same direction),
then sew a running stitch along the top to
gather the skirt.
10: Sew the top of the peplum/skirt combination
to the bottom of the bodice.
11: Hem the bodice and skirt: fold the back
edge over about 3 mm, then stitch all the way
along (bodice + peplum), leaving 15mm at the
bottom of the skirt, which you will sew last
12: Sew a piece of bias band to the bottom of
the skirt to make it flare out more, then sew the
back of the skirt together
13: Add velcro to the back of the bodice

Peplum dress
1: Trace and cut out the pattern on paper. It
consists of three pieces: skirt, peplum and
bodice of choice. Fold the fabric in half.
2: Align the ‘place on fold’ lines with the fold.
Pin all three layers (pattern and the folded
fabric) together to ensure nothing moves.
3: Cut the fabric, fold open.

For the bodice with sleeves:
