CLASS – X (MATHEMATICS)
ASSIGNMENT- CHAPTER 14 PROBABILITY

1. A jar contains 54 marbles each of which is blue green or white. The probability of
selecting a blue marble at random from the jar is 1/3 and probability of selecting a
green marble at random is 4/9. How many white marbles are there in the jar?

2. Two customers Shyam and Ekta are visiting a particular shop in the same week
(Tuesday to Saturday). Each is equally likely to visit the shop on any day as on another
day. What is probability that both will visit the shop on i) same day ii) consecutive day.

3. 17 cards numbered 1, 2, 3,. ... 16,17 are put in a box and mixed thoroughly. One person
draws a card from the box. find the probability that the number in the card is i) an odd
number ii) a prime number iii) divisible by 3

4. A box contains cards bearing numbers from 6 to 70. If one card is drawn at random
from the box, find the probability that it bears i) an odd number less than 30 ii) a
composite number between 50and 70.

5. A jar contains 24 marbles, some are green and others are blue. If a marble is drawn at
random from the jar, the probability that it is green is 2/3. Find the number of blue
balls in the jar.

6. Red queens and black jacks are removed from a pack of 52 playing cards. A card is
drawn at random from the remaining cards, after reshuffling them. Find the
probability that the drawn card is i) a king ii) of redcolour iii) a face card iv) a queen.

7. A piggy bank contains hundred 50 p coins, fifty 1-rupee coins, twenty 2-rupee coins
and ten 5- rupee coins. If it is equally likely that one of the coins will fall out when
the bank is turned upside down, find the probability that the coin which fell i) will
be of value more than 1 rupee ii) will be of value less than 5
rupees.

8. A carton consists of 100 shirts of which 88 are good, 8 have minor defects and 4 have
major defects Ramesh a trader will only accept the shirts which are good but Ram
another trader will only reject the shirts which have major defects. One shirt is
drawn at random from the carton. What is the probability that (i) it is
acceptable to Ramesh (ii) it is acceptable to Ram.

9. A die is tossed once. find the probability of getting

A. a number greater than 4. B. An even number
C. a number less than 7. D. An even number or a multiple of 3
E. An even number and a multiple of 3

10. A box contains 150 apples. If one apple is taken out from the box at random and the
probability of its being rotten is 0.06 then find the number of good apples in the ball.

11. The king queen and jack of clubs are removed from a deck of 52 playing cards and
then well shuffled now one card is drawn at random from the remaining cards.
Determine the probability that the card is
(i) a heart (ii) a queen (iii) a club (iv) 10 of hearts (v) a black face card
(vi) an ace or queen (vii) neither an ace nor a black king

12. Two unbiased coins are tossed simultaneously find the probability of getting (i)
two heads (ii) exactly 1head (iii) no head (iv) at most one head
(v) at least one head

13. Two different dice are rolled together, find the probability of getting:
A. A doublet
B. An even number on both dice
C. An prime number on each dice
D. A Number greater than 3 on each dice.
E. A multiple of 2 on one dice and a multiple of 3 on other.
F. Sum of two numbers is 10
G. Sum of two numbers appearing on both dice is 13
H. A perfect square number
I. Sum is multiple of 3 as the sum
J. Sum is atleast 10
K. 5 will not come up on either of them
L. 5 will come up on atleast one dir
M. 5 will come up at both dice
N. 5 will come up atmost once.

14. CASE STUDY:

In two dice game, the player take turns to roll both dice,
they can roll as many times as they want in one turn. A
player scores the sum of the two dice thrown and
gradually reaches a higher score as they continue to roll.
If a single number 1 is thrown on either die, the score for
that whole turn is lost. Two dice are thrown
simultaneously.
A) What is the probability of getting the sum as an even
number?
B) What is the probability of getting the sum as a prime
number?
C) What is the probability of getting the sum of atleast 10?
D) What is the probability of getting a doublet of even number?
E) What is the probability of getting a product of numbers greater than 16?

15. CASE STUDY:

A survey was taken at a high school, and the results were
put in a circle graph. The students were asked to list their
favourite colours. The measurement of each central angle
is shown. If a person is chosen at random from the school,
find the probability of each response.
A) What is the probability of favourite colour being red ?
B) What is the probability of favourite colour being blue
or green ?
C) What is the probability of favourite colour not being
red or blue?
D) What is the probability of favourite colour not being
orange or green ?
E) What is the probability of favourite colour being red or blue?
