Business Requirements Document Template

Important Note: This document contains template for BRD. Each element of BRD and the template of each
element is given in this editable file. This file also contains brief explanation of each element, for your
convenience. You may use it to create BRD for your organization / business by editing the document and
adding relevant information, wherever required. You may also refer to the solved case studies, in the
module named “case-studies”.

1. Executive Summary

[Executive Summary must summarize the entire project details for high level executives, in a nutshell. Reading this summary
must give a fair amount of idea of what the project is, why is it undertaken and what does the business intend to achieve through
this project]

2. Project background:
 Project Details: [Describe about the business, what it does & what project it wants to undertake]
 Business problem: [Describe about the problem that this business is facing, which they want to overcome through
the project undertaken]

 Business Opportunity: [Describe if there is any business opportunity that presents a viable chance for the business
to introduce a new product or service, enter a new market, or create a competitive advantage that has the potential for
profitability]

 Any relevant industry or market trends that have influenced the need for the project: [Describe if
there is any emerging trends or changes in consumer behaviour, due to which this project is undertaken. Describe the
trends and support with relevant research or data, if available]

 Any regulations or compliance or environmental requirements / changes that must be addressed


by the project: [Describe if there is any compliance or environmental changes or requirements, due to which the
project is undertaken.]

 Stakeholder interests and motivations for the project: [Describe how the stakeholders and business will
benefit from the project undertaken.]
3. Business Objectives:

Explain the functionality in detail, along with expected inputs to be given, and outputs to be expected]

7. Non-Functional Requirements:

[Aspects of a system or product that describe how it performs certain functions rather than what functions it performs. These
requirements focus on the overall behaviour, performance, usability, reliability, and security of the system, rather than its specific
features or functionalities]

8. User Acceptance Criteria:


[Set of rules/actions that the finished product must meet in order to be considered acceptable by users]
