drivers. (8)
_____________________________________________________________________
The implementation of sensors in smart cars has become increasingly crucial as the automotive industry progresses
toward automation and enhanced safety measures. There are both advantages and disadvantages of using sensors in
_____________________________________________________________________
smart cars. For advantages, they improved Safety as sensors such as cameras, radar, and ultrasonic devices can
detect objects around the vehicle, helping to prevent accidents. Automated Driving Features which allow vehicles to take

control in specific driving conditions. The disadvantages are they have higher costs and are not always reliable.

13. State two advantages of Matrix over Linear Barcodes. (2)

Matrix codes are also known as QR codes and are newer than linear barcodes
_____________________________________________________________________ and have some
advantages over linear barcodes. For example, they can hold much more information than linear

barcodes and can be scanned from any angle

14. List four examples of biometric scanners. Describe two advantages and two
disadvantages of using them. (8)
_____________________________________________________________________
Biometric scanners work by measuring part of the unique physical characteristics of a user, often
multiple times, until a suitable average result is produced. Four examples of biometric scanners are
_____________________________________________________________________
fingerprint recognition, facial recognition, voice recognition and iris recognition. Fingerprint recognition
read the patterns of arches, loops and whorls in a human fingerprint. Facial recognition identifies the
_____________________________________________________________________
structure of a human face in order to identify an individual. Voice recognition requires a microphone to
capture the voice and compare the voice print against a saved original and check to see whether the
_____________________________________________________________________
two prints match. Iris recognition is like fingerprints, the human iris has a unique pattern, though an iris
scan is approximately 120 times more detailed than a fingerprint, so it is 120 times more reliable when

identifying people. Biometric scanners are easier for users than passwords because biometric data can't
be forgotten and is more difficult to trick or confuse than others. However, they are expensive and can
_____________________________________________________________________
make some people uncomfortable.

15. What is User Interface? List five types of User Interface. (7)
_____________________________________________________________________
User interface is a system that allows a user to interact with a device. There are five types
of user interface. They are command line interface (CLI), menu-driven interface. graphical
_____________________________________________________________________
user interface (GUI), voice interface and gesture interface. CLI requires little memory but
commands have to be typed precisely because the interface only recognizes certain commands.
_____________________________________________________________________
Menu-driven interfaces are easier to use than command line interfaces but can take more time.
A graphical user interface is controlled by a pointer on the screen and uses a screen made up of
_____________________________________________________________________
windows, icons and menus. This is the easiest type of interface to use, but it takes up more memory
and storage than a command line or menu-driven interface. A voice interface allows the user to give spoken
_____________________________________________________________________
commands to a device but require internet access. Gesture interface allows the user to control the
device by swiping their finger or fingers across the screen, or by pinching their fingers together to zoom in or

out. And is commonly found on devices with touch screens.
