EMT 3151 – ENGINEERING DRAWING II (A)
DATE: MAY 2022 TIME: 3 HOURS INSTRUCTIONS: a) This examination paper contains a total of FIVE Questions. b) Question One carries a total of 20 marks, while the other four carry a total of 15 marks each. c) Answer question ONE and Any other TWO questions. d) Maximum marks for each part of the question is indicated. e) All dimensions are in millimetres (mm) unless otherwise specified f) Ensure you have drawing instruments required. g) Ensure that each answer sheet has a margin well drawn and has a Title block. QUESTION ONE (20 MARKS) a) Construct a helix of one convolution on a cylinder. The pitch of the cylinder is 80 mm and the diameter is 50 mm (6 marks) b) Draw one convolutions of an Archimedean spiral, given the maximum radius of 100 mm and minimum radius of 28 mm. Draw normal and tangent to the curve at a point 45 mm from the pole. (5 marks) c) A wheel of diameter 50 mm is linked as shown in Figure Q1(c) by a link rod AC that is 110 mm long. The swivel slider B is 55 mm from the centre of the circle on the same axis. Construct the loci of point C when the wheel rotates one complete clockwise rotation.

A vertical cylinder of 60 mm diameter is penetrated by another cylinder of 40 mm diameter, the axis of the two cylinders is parallel to both the horizontal plane and the vertical plane but 9 mm apart as shown in Figure Q2. Draw the projections showing curves of intersection of: a) Front elevation (7 marks) b) End Elevation (5 marks) c) Plan View (3 marks)

It IS cut by a section plane 450 inclined to HP through base end as shown in Figure Q3. Draw the following projections: a) The sectional views on the plan and end view (7 marks) b) True shape of section, and, (3 marks) c) Development of surfaces of remaining solid. (5 marks)

Foundation of Innovations Page 3 QUESTION FOUR (15 MARKS) A cam and with a knife edge follower has the following data: The minimum radius of the cam is 25 mm, 1200 lift under simple harmonic motion (SHM), 600 dwell, return stroke is 1200 at uniform velocity. The remaining period of the cam rotation is a dwell. The lift of the cam follower is 60 mm, while the cam rotates in clockwise direction. From this data, draw the following: a) The displacement diagram of the cam follower for a scale of 3600:150mm (8 marks) b) The cam profile (7 marks)
