Past Continuous
The past continuous (also called past progressive) describes an action that
was ongoing at a specific time in the past. It emphasizes the duration of the
action and that it was in progress during that time.
We use the past continuous to express:
• An action that was in progress in the past.
• Two actions at the same time (simultaneous actions).
• Interrupted actions.

Examples:

• Were you working on the project?

• They were staying in the hotel next to ours.
• He was watching TV in the evening.
• I was sleeping when you called.
