each. Section D comprises of 6 questions of 4 marks each.
(iv) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choices have been
provided in two questions of 1 mark each, two questions of 2 marks each,
three questions of 3 marks each, and three questions of 4 marks each. You
have to attempt only one of the alternatives in all such questions.
(v) Use of calculators is not permitted.

Hypotenuse = a√2 = 4√2

If the distance between M(-1, 5) and N(x, 5) is 8 units then find the value of x
Answer:
The point M(-1, 5) and N(x, 5) lie on a line parallel to x -axis because their
ordinates are same. Since the distance between the points is 8 units, therefore
the value of x is -9 or 7.

So, if each observation of the data is decreased by 5, then the mean is also
decreased by 5.

Question 21:
If (25)x - 1 = 52x - 1 - 100, then what is the value of x?
Answer:
Given, (25)x - 1 = 52x - 1 - 100
=> 52(x – 1) = 52x - 1 – 100
=> 52x – 2 = 52x - 1 – 100
=> 52x - 1 – 52x – 2 = 100
x = 2 satisfies the above equation.
So, the value of x is 2.

Question 22:
Priya and Pooja have the same amount of money. If each gets Rs 4000 more,
how will their new amounts be compared?
Answer:
Let Rs x be the money each of Priya and Pooja had.
Priya and Pooja will have amount Rs (x + 4000) each after adding Rs 4000.
According to Euclid’s second axiom, when equals are added to equals, the
wholes are equal.
So, Priya and Pooja again have equal amount of money.

Question 23:
In the given figure, find the value of x.

In Δ ABC, we have
∠BAC + ∠ABC + ∠ACB = 180°
=> ∠ACB = 105°
Also, ∠ACB + ∠ACD = 180° [By linear pair axiom]
=> ∠ACD = 75°
Now, x = ∠MCD + ∠CDM
=> x = 75° + 20° = 95°

Question 24:
If x2 – 3x + 2 divides x3 – 6x2 + ax + b exactly, then find the value of a and b.
Answer:
x2 – 3x + 2 = (x – 1)(x – 2)
=> x3 – 6x2 + ax + b is exactly divisible by (x – 1) and (x – 2)
So, (x – 1) and (x – 2) are factors of given polynomial.
i.e. f(1) = 0 and f(2) = 0
Now, f(1) = 0 => a + b – 5 = 0
and f(2) = 0 => 2a + b – 16 = 0
Solving equations (i) and (ii), we get
a = 11 and b = -6

Question 25:
Write the mirror image of the point (2, 3) and (-4, -6) with respect to x-axis.
Answer:
(i) The point (2, 3) lies in Ist quadrant. Its mirror image will be in IVth quadrant.
Hence, the mirror image of point (2, 3) is (2, -3) with respect to x-axis.
(ii) The point (-4, -6) lies in IIIrd quadrant. Its mirror image will be in IInd
quadrant. Hence, the mirror image of (-4, -6) is (-4, 6) with respect to x-axis.

Question 26:
Two consecutive angles of a parallelogram are (x + 60)° and (2x + 30)°. What
special name can you give to this parallelogram?
Answer:
We know that consecutive interior angles of a parallelogram are
supplementary.
So, (x + 60° + (2x + 30)° = 180°
=> 3x° + 90° = 180°
=> 3x° = 90°
=> x° = 30°
Thus, two consecutive angles are (30 + 60)°, (2 * 30 + 30)° i.e. 90° and 90°.
Hence, the special name of the given parallelogram is rectangle.

Question 27:
Write the shape of the quadrilateral formed by joining (1, 1), (6, 1), (4, 5) and
(3, 5) on graph paper.
Answer:
After plotting the points on the graph, we get the following figure.

So, the shape of the quadrilateral formed by joining (1, 1), (6, 1), (4, 5) and
(3, 5) is a trapezium.

Question 28:
In the fig., D, E and F are, respectively the mid-points of sides BC, CA and AB of
an equilateral triangle ABC. Prove that DEF is also an equilateral triangle.

Answer:
Since line segment joining the mid-points of two sides of a triangle is half of
the third side.
Therefore, D and E are mid-points of BC and AC respectively.

E and F are the mid-points of AC and AB respectively.

Let y varies directly as x. If y = 12 when x = 4, then write a linear equation.
What is the value of y, when x = 5?
Answer:
Given, y varies directly as x
=> y = kx
But y = 12 for x = 4
=> 4k = 12
=> k = 3
Now, put k = 3 in y = kx, we have
y = 3x
Now, when x = 5,
y=3*5
=> y = 15

Question 30:
In the figure, O is the centre of a circle passing through points A, B, C and D and
∠ADC = 120°. Find the value of x.

Since ABCD is a cyclic quadrilateral
∠ADC + ∠ABC = 180° [opposite angles of a cyclic quad. are supplementary]
=> 120° + ∠ABC = 180°

Now, ∠ACB = 90° [angle in a semicircle]
In right angle ∆CBA,
∠ACB = 90°
=> ∠CAB + ∠ABC = 90°
=> x + 60° = 90°
=> x = 90° -60°
=> x = 30°

Question 31:
In the figure, TR ⊥ PS, PQ || TR and PS || QR. If QR = 8 cm, PQ = 3 cm and
SP = 12 cm, find ar(PQRS).

Answer:
Here, PS || QR
So, PQRS is a trapezium in which PQ = 3 cm, QR = 8 cm and SP = 12 cm
Now, TR Ʇ PS and PQ || TR
So, PQRT is a rectangle [Since PQ || TR, PT || QR and ∠PTR = 90°]
=> PQ = TR = 3 cm

The cost of a shirt of a particular brand is Rs 1000. Write a linear equation,
when the cost of x shirts is Rs y . Draw the graph of this equation and find the
cost of 12 such shirts from the graph.
Answer:
Given, cost of x shirts = Rs y

According to the question,

Show that if two sides of a triangle are of lengths 5 cm and 1.5 cm, then the

Given, the length of two sides of a triangle are 5 cm and 1.5 cm respectively.

We know that, difference of two sides < third side
And sum of two sides > third side

Hence, BC cannot be 3.4 cm.

Question 34:
The mean of first 8 observations is 18 and last 8 observation is 20. If the mean
of all 15 observations is 19, find the 8th observation.
Answer:
Mean of first 8 observations = 18
Sum of first 8 observation = 8 * 18 = 144
Similarly, sum of last 8 observations = 8 * 20 = 160
Sum of all 15 observations = 15 * 19 = 285
8th observation = (144 + 160) − 285 = 19

Draw graphs of 3x + 2y = 0 and 2x − 3y = 0 and what is the point of intersection
of the two lines representing the above equation.

= nX – nX [From equation 1]

Question 40:
What length of tarpaulin 3 m wide will be required to make conical tent of
height 8 m and base radius 6 m? Assume that the extra length of material that
will be required for Stitching margins and wastage in cutting is approximately
29 cm (use π = 3.14)
Answer:
Here h = 6 m, r = 8 m
We have, l = √(r2 + h2)
= √(62 + 82)
= √(36 + 64)
= √100
=> l = 10 m
Curved surface area of the tent = πrl
= 3.14 * 6 * 10
3.14 ∗ 6 ∗ 10
So, required length of tarpaulin = 3
m + 20 cm

= (3.14 * 2 * 10) m + 20 cm
= (62.8 + 0.2) m
= 63 m
