2. Eligibility criteria for admission to the Ph.D. programmes:

The following are eligible to seek admission to the Ph.D. programme:
2.1 Candidates who have completed:
A 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s
degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year
bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s
degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in
aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
OR
equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an
assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by
an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other
statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of
the educational institution.
2.2 A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade,
may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer Central list)/
PwBD/ Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per
the decision of the UGC from time to time. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an
equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the
relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the
qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
2.3 Only those candidates who have completed their minimum qualifying
Examination/degree on or before Academic Session 2023-2024 will be eligible
for admission in the Ph.D. programme for the Academic Session 2024-2025.
3. Admission Process:
 Applications will be filled and submitted ONLINE through the link
https://hnbguadmission.samarth.edu.in/2024
 The University shall admit Ph.D. students through an all India Entrance Examination and
interview jointly. However, the following categories of the applicants shall be exempted
from the Entrance Examination, but they have to apply online on the prescribed form
till the due date along with fee.
 UGC NET/UGC-CSIR NET/ GATE/CEED/ICAR/DST Inspire and similar national
level tests qualified candidates.
 The question paper of the entrance examination will be of total 100 marks. The paper will
include two sections.
 Section I will consist of questions based on Research Methodology (50 marks).
 Section II will be subject specific based questions on the Post-Graduate
syllabus/syllabus passed in BoS and AC of the concerned/allied subjects (50 marks).
 The question paper will contain 100 objective type multiple choice questions (50 in
each section); and the duration of examination is two (02) hours.
 There will be no negative marking for wrong answer in the question paper.

 Please visit the University website www.hnbgu.ac.in for the Entrance Examination
syllabus for different subjects and a common syllabus of Research Methodology for the
Entrance Examination.
 Qualifying cut-off marks in Entrance Examination will be 50% for General and 45% for
SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer Central list)/EWS, PwBD categories.
 All the qualified candidates in the Entrance Examination will be called for interview along
with the candidates exempted from the entrance examination.
 An interview will be organized by the concerned department of the University in which
the candidates will be required to discuss in research interest/area through a
presentation before a duly constituted Board of Studies.
 The interview shall also consider the following aspects, whether:
 The candidate possesses the competence for the proposed research;
 The research work can be suitably undertaken at the Institution/College;
 The proposed area of research can contribute to new/additional knowledge.
 FOLLOWING WILL BE THE ASSESSMENT INDEX OF 100 MARKS FOR ADMISSION:
(A) For the exempted category-
(a) Students who qualify for fellowship/scholarship in UGC NET/UGC-
CSIR NET/ GATE/CEED/ICAR/DST Inspire and similar national level
tests.
Academic career: Distribution of 70 marks
(As per the decision/approval of Academic Council of the University)
(i) 30% of percentage of marks obtained in UG
(ii) 40% of percentage of marks obtained in PG
(iii) Marks obtained in the interview of 30 marks
(b) For students who qualify the NET under categories 2 and 3:
As per UGC Letter No. F.4.1 (UGC NET Review Committee)/24(NET)/140648
dated 27-03-2024
 70% weightage will be given for NET 2024 test scores and 30%
weightage for the interview for admission to Ph.D. programmes. The
formula for calculation of 70% weightages is as under-
(Secured score in NET 2024/Maximum score in NET 2024) x 0.70
(B) For the candidates who qualify the University Entrance Examination:
(a) 70% of the marks obtained in the entrance Examination.
(b) Marks obtained in the interview out of 30 marks
 The result of Ph.D. Entrance Examination shall be valid for admission for the
academic session 2024-2025 only.
 All the qualified candidates should bring the hard copy of their online application along
with all the original documents and certificates at the time of interview.

Note: A candidate can apply for only one Ph.D. programme.

 The University reserves the right to cancel any of the centers if a sufficient number of
applications are not received. In such cases, the University may allot a new center to the
affected applicants.
 The centre allotted will be mentioned in the Admit Card. Applicant must note that the
Examination Centre once allotted to a candidate shall not be changed.

7. GENERAL INSTRUCTION FOR THE APPLICANTS:

 The applicants must read this Information brochure 2024-25 carefully.

 The HNBGU Srinagar Garhwal is adopting UGC (Ph.D.) Regulations, 2022 and further
amendments for the admission process in Ph.D. programme.
 Merely qualifying in the Entrance Examination does not guarantee admission in any
program, as admission to particular program is subject to the availability of seats in that
programme and fulfilling other eligibility conditions.
 The result of Entrance Examination shall be valid for admission for the current academic
session (2024-25) only.
 The medium for written Examination will be English for subjects under Schools of Sciences
(excluding Home Science), Life Sciences, Agriculture and Allied Sciences, School of
Management, School of Engineering & Technology, School of Earth Sciences (excluding

Geography, Defence Strategic and Geo Political Studies) and medium for rest of the subjects
in other schools will be bilingual, excluding languages.
 The candidates who have done M.Phil. from HNB Garhwal University only are exempted
from appearing in the Ph.D. Entrance Examination in the concerned subjects but they have
to apply online on prescribed form with the fee before the last date.
 No material /information will be sent by post. Students must visit the university website
regularly to know the updates regarding admission schedule, etc.
 The candidate should ensure that he/she fulfills the eligibility criteria and other norms
mentioned in this notification on the date of online Registration. Ensuring the eligibility for
applying to a particular programme will be the sole responsibility of the candidate.
 The registered email id and mobile number shall be used for the communication process.
Candidates must ensure that mobile no. and e-mail ID provided by him/her are valid and
are active. The mobile no. and e-mail ID must be his/her own. All future communication
with the candidate will be made through the given email only.
 Candidates may note that any change in the content of this Information Brochure including
cancellation of test centre/date of Examination, notification relating to conduct of
test/display of provisional answer key etc. will be uploaded on the official website of the
University i.e. www.hnbgu.ac.in only. The candidates are therefore advised to regularly
visit the website for updates.
 The format of application is ONLINE and the applicant must take due care while filling up
the online- form. The information provided by the applicant in his /her from shall not be
changed or altered in any case. The university shall not be liable for any mistake/error
committed by the applicant.
 In case, there is any discrepancy between English and Hindi version of the Information
Brochure, English version will be considered as final.

THE NUMBER OF SEATS FOR ADMISSION IN Ph.D. COURSE MAY BE INCREASED OR REDUCED AS
PER THE UNIVERSITY NORMS. THE FINAL DECISION ON THIS MATTER LIES WITH UNIVERSITY.
