elements in a work of fiction:

General Comprehension Questions for Fiction:

1. Plot and Summary

●​ What is the main problem or conflict in the story?​

●​ How does the story begin? What is the setting (time and place)?​

●​ What events lead up to the climax of the story?​

●​ How does the story end? What happens to the characters at the end?​

2. Character Analysis

●​ Who is the protagonist of the story? What qualities make them the main character?​

●​ Who is the antagonist? What challenges do they present to the protagonist?​

●​ How do the main characters change throughout the story? Give examples.​

●​ Describe a secondary character. How do they contribute to the plot or the development
of the main characters?​

●​ Do you relate to any of the characters? Why or why not?​

3. Setting

●​ Where and when does the story take place? How does the setting affect the events in
the story?​

●​ How would the story be different if it were set in another place or time?​

4. Conflict and Resolution


●​ What is the central conflict of the story? Is it internal (within a character) or external
(between characters or forces)?​

●​ How is the conflict resolved in the story?​

●​ Did the resolution of the story satisfy you? Why or why not?​

5. Themes and Message

●​ What are the main themes or messages in the story?​

●​ How do the events in the story reflect these themes?​

●​ How do the characters' actions or decisions relate to the themes of the story?​

6. Point of View

7. Symbolism
