How To Calculate The Day For A Particular Date

The document outlines a method for calculating the day of the week for any date up to the year 2000 using specific codes for months and days. It provides an equation that incorporates the date, month code, last two digits of the year, and the number of leap years to determine the day. For dates after the year 2000, the calculated day must be adjusted to the previous day for the final answer.

How to calculate the day for a particular date

This applies only for dates up till the year 2000.

Remember the codes below as they will be relevant in forming the equation and finding the
answer.

January 0 Sunday 0
February 3
Monday 1
March 3
April 6 Tuesday 2
May 1
Wednesday 3
June 4
July 6 Thursday 4
August 2
Friday 5
September 5
October 0 Saturday 6
November 3
December 5

The codes from the months will now be called as Mc.

The equation is:
Date provided + Mc + Last two digits of year asked + No. of leap years in that particular
century till the year provided

NOTE: The answer is not related to the number that you get when divided by 7, in fact it is
the remainder that is taken into consideration.
Whichever number the remainder is, corresponds to the code of days given above.

For e.g.: What day was 25th January 1955?

A: The date provided: 25
Mc: 0
Last two digits of the year provided: 55
No. of leap years in that particular century till the year provided (1900 – 1955): 13
Now, we use the formula and substitute the values to get
25 + 0 + 55 + 13

7
The remainder is 5.
Following the table provided above, 5 corresponds with Friday.
Therefore, 25th January 1955 was a Friday.

For days after the year 200, use the same formula. But, once you find the day the number
corresponds to, don’t assume that to be the answer. The answer would be the day before
that.
For e.g.: The remainder you get once using the formula is 0.
0 corresponds to Sunday.
But we must take the previous day, hence the answer will be Saturday.
