HISTORY OF RADIO BROADCASTING
Radio broadcasting has been generally recognized that the first
transmission was made from a temporary station set up by
Guliemo Marconi in 1895 on the like of weight. And it followed on
form pioneering work in the filed by a number of people including
Alessandro Volta, Andre-Marie Ampere, Georgohm, James Clerk
Maxwell and Heintch Rudolf Hertz.

Radio broadcasting of music and talk intended to reach a


dispersed audience experimentally stated around 1905-1906, and
commercially around 1920 to 1923. VHF very high frequency
stations stated 30 to 35 years later. In the early days, radio
stations broadcast on the long ware, medium wave and short
wavebands, later on VHF and UHF.

In the United Kingdom, Hungary, fiancé and some other places


from as early as 1980, there was already a system whereby news,
music live theatre, fiction, readings, religious broadcast etc, were
made available in a private homes through conventional
telephone line with a number of subscribers being supplied with
headsets. The Britain called this system electrophone which was
available as early as 1895 or 1899 till 1926. In Hungary, it was
called telephone hirmondo (1893-1920) and in France,
theatrophone (1890-1932).

In the 1950, virtually every country had a broadcasting system,


typically owned and controlled by the government. In the United
States, radio was used which was sponsored by both the state
and commercial stations and was introduced in Australia in the
year 1932. Today most countries has evolved into a new system
including the UK. By 1955, practically every family in North
America and Western Europe, as well as japan. Dramatic change
came in the 1960 with the introduction of small inexpensive,
portable transistor radios which greatly expanded ownership and
usage, and it became practically universal around the world.
DEFINITION OF RADIO BROADCASTING

Radio broadcasting and development has evolved significantly


and its inception in the late 19 th century to the present internet
age. Radio broadcasting can be defined as the process of
transmitting sound, including speech and music from a central
location to a wide audience through electromagnetic waves of
internet-based platform.

THE MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS OF BROADCASTING FROM


INCEPTION TO INTERNET AGE WITH MAJOR
CONTRIBUTIONS

1. The birth of broadcasting: it begins in the late 19th


century with the pioneering work of inventors like Gugliemo
Marconi and Nikola Tesla. Marconi experiments coreless
telegraphy in 1985, he successfully transmitted radio signal
across distance demonstrating the potential for long
distance communication without wires.
in the 20th century, radio broadcasting has become a
powerful medium of entertainment. The scheduled radio
station took place in 1920 when the station KDKA in
pittburgh aired the results of the as presidential election.
This historical event marked the beginning of a new era in
mass communication.

2. The golden age: the 1920 and 1930 are referred to as the
golden age of radio. During this period radio broadcasting
flourished, captivates audience from diverse array of
programming. One of the most used radio programs of the
era was orson wells, war of the words” broadcast in 1988
radio also played a crucial role during World War II.
Broadcasters like Edward R, Marrow became household
names for fearless reporting from the front lines.

3. The rise of television: The first experimental television began


in the 1920s in 1948, the first regularly scheduled television
programming began in the United States with the launch of
new networks like NBC and CBS. It brought a visual
storytelling to a whole new level with iconic shows like “I
love lucy”, the twilight zone etc captivating audience with
compelling characters and groundbreaking visuals.

4. Digital resolution: With the further advancement sin


broadcasting technology in the 20 th century, digital
broadcasting offered improved audio and video quality as
well as greater efficiency in spectrum usage. The risk of
cables and satellite television in the 1980s and 1990s
expanded the number of channels available for viewers.

5. The internet age: The use of streaming services like Netflix,


Halu and youtube challenged traditional broadcasters by
offering on demand access to vast library of content, social
media platforms like facebook twitter and instagrams further
disrupted the industry, enabling broadcasters to interact
with their audience in real time and extend the reach of it
content beyond traditional changes live streaming has
become increasingly popular allowing individuals and
organizations to broadcast events, concerts and breaking
news directly to viewers in the world.

Broadcasting will continue to evolve and adapt to new


technologies and consumer preferences. Virtual reality,
augmented reality and artificial intelligence are poised to
revolutionize, the way we experience content, blurring the lines
between the physical and digital worlds.
