"Either…… or……" is used to indicate choices or possibilities.
- She will either accept the job offer or continue looking for a
better opportunity.
- John has two options for his vacation. He will either visit Paris or
stay at home.
1. You shouldn’t eat junk food. You shouldn’t drink sugary drinks.
You should neither eat junk food nor drink sugary drinks.
2. Max didn’t understand the instructions. He didn’t follow the guidelines.
Max neither understood the instructions nor followed the guidelines.
3. The proposal wasn’t accepted by the committee. It wasn’t discussed in the
meeting.
The proposal was neither accepted by the committee nor discussed in the
meeting.
4. The restaurant didn’t have vegetarian options. It didn’t have any gluten-free
meals.
The restaurant had neither vegetarian options nor gluten-free meals.
Not only…… but also……
- He enjoys not only playing the piano but also composing his own
music.
- The book covers not only the history of the region but also its
cultural significance.
When “not only… but also…” is the subject of the sentence,the
verb must agree with the subject that is closer to it.
- Not only the employees but also the managers are attending
the conference.
EXAMPLE: Both the little girl and her parents want to win the
International Cheese Championship.
