Pdce Report

The report details the design of a sieve tray tower for scrubbing CO2 from flue gases produced in a dry ice manufacturing plant. Using Aspen simulation, the process aims to reduce CO2 content from 15% to 2% by employing a 30% MEA solution. The simulation successfully converged, achieving the desired CO2 composition in the outlet gas stream.

1. A plant manufacturing dry ice burns coke with air to produce flue gases containing CO2. When the
flue gases are cleaned and cooled, they contain 15% CO2, 6% O2, and 79% N2. The gases are at 25°C
and 912 mmHg of pressure. They are to be scrubbed with 30% MEA solution to bring down CO2
content in the outlet gas to 2%. Solvent enters the column at 25°C and contains 0.058 moles of CO2
per mole of MEA solution. The scrubber is to be operated at 25°C and 912 mmHg. Design a suitable
sieve tray tower to handle 100 tons of flue gases.

The equilibrium data for the problem is given. Using that we find the inputs to be specified in the tower in
aspen hysys.

Step 1: Components Taken:

Step 2: Fluid packages selected

Step 3: Entering the simulation environment and setting up the flowsheet as shown:

Step 4: Inputs given to streams

Step 5. Run the design for different trays and pressure and see if it converges.

So the setup is converged.

Step 6. Verify the results. Whether the results are what we desired or there needs to be changes made.

The composition of CO2 in lean gases stream was required 2% and is 0.0218. Hence we have obtained
required results.
