General Instructions :
i. Question paper comprises Six Sections – A, B, C, D, E and F. There are 34 questions in the
question paper. All questions are compulsory.
ii. Section A – Question No 1 to 16 are Very Short Objective Type Questions of 1 mark
each.
iii. Section B – Question No. 17 to 21 are Very Short Answer Type Questions, carrying
2marks each. Answer to each question should not exceed 40 words.
iv. Section C – Question No 22 to 25 are Short Answer Type Questions, carrying 3 marks
each. Answer to each question should not exceed 60 words
v. Section D – Question No. 26 to 29 are Long Answer Type Questions, carrying 5 marks
each. Answer to each question should not exceed 120 words.
vi. Section-E – Question No from 31 to 33 are Source based Questions and are of 4 marks
each.
vii. Section F – Question No. 34-35 are Map based, carrying 1 mark each.
viii. In addition to this, separate instructions are given with each section and question,
wherever necessary.
ix. Both the maps should be attached inside the answer booklet.

Rotation is the movement of the earth on its axis. The movement of the earth around the
sun in a fixed path or orbit is called Revolution.The axis of the earth which is an imaginary
line, makes an angle of 66 1/2° with its orbital plane. The plane formed by the orbit is known
as the orbital plane. The earth receives light from the sun. Due to the spherical shape of the
earth, only half of it gets light from the sun at a time. The portion facing the sun experiences
day while the other half away from the sun experiences night. The circle that divides the day
from night on the globe is called the circle of illumination. This circle does not coincide with
the axis. The earth takes about 24 hours to complete one rotation around its axis. The period
of rotation is known as the earth day. This is the daily motion of the earth.
