Small Talk
Small Talk
Good morning teacher, my name is Van Thanh. My hometown is Thanh Hoa province, but
now I live in Ha Noi Capital. The digital device I can’t live without is definitely my
smartphone. I use it every single day for many purposes. Most importantly, it helps me stay
in touch with my friends and family through phone calls, text messages, and social media
apps like Facebook and Zalo. Besides communication, I also use it a lot for studying. I can
attend online classes, watch educational videos on YouTube, do research, and even take notes
with different apps.
I bought this phone last year for about $300, and I think it was a great investment. It has truly
become an essential part of my daily routine. Thanks to my smartphone, I can manage my
time better, stay updated with the news, and access information whenever I need it. Without
it, I would probably feel disconnected, unorganized, and even a little anxious.
In short, my smartphone plays a very important role in both my personal and academic life.
It’s not just a device—it’s like a mini assistant that supports me in almost everything I do.
TOPIC 2: PART 2:
Last year, I had a difficult experience when I got lost while traveling in a new city. It was my
first time there, and I didn’t speak the local language, which made things even more
challenging. I had gone out to explore some tourist spots, but when I tried to return to my
hotel, I realized I had taken the wrong street and couldn’t remember the exact address.
At first, I felt nervous and confused because I didn’t know anyone there and couldn’t ask for
directions easily. Fortunately, I had my smartphone with me, and it turned out to be a
lifesaver. I opened Google Maps to figure out my current location and searched for the
hotel’s name. It showed me the fastest route back. I also used a translation app to
communicate with some local people who were kind enough to guide me in the right
direction.
Although it was a stressful moment, my smartphone helped me solve the problem quickly
and safely. I felt incredibly relieved and thankful. That experience made me realize how
valuable technology is, especially when you're far from home and facing unexpected
problems. Without my phone, the situation could have become much worse. From that day
on, I always make sure my phone is fully charged and connected whenever I travel.
