NSDC Debate Template
1st Proposition Speaker – Opening Speech
✅ Purpose: Define the debate, set up the team’s arguments, and
establish a strong foundation. ✅ Time: 8 minutes
Template & Explanation
"Good [morning/afternoon/evening], everyone. My name is
[Name], and I am the first speaker of the Proposition team. Today, we are debating the motion: '[Motion].' We strongly support this motion."
Step 1: Define Key Terms
"Before we proceed, let me clarify key terms in today’s
debate." "We define [term] as [definition]." "For the purpose of this debate, [term] means [explanation]."
Step 2: Explain the Context
"This issue is important because [reason]."
"We believe that taking action now will [impact]."
Step 3: Outline Team Split (Division of Arguments)
"As the first speaker, I will discuss [argument 1] and
[argument 2]." "Our second speaker, [Name], will present [argument 3] and [argument 4] and provide rebuttals." "Our third speaker, [Name], will summarize the debate and further refute the opposition’s case."
Step 4: Present the First Argument
"Our first argument is [title]."
