M25 GRADE CONCRETE
1. INTRODUCTION

Assistant Engineer, P.W.D, Gairkata, Sub-Division vide his latter bearing Memo No 92 dated
10.03.2025 requested the civil engineering Department of civil engineering jalpaiguri
government engineering collage for carrying out the laboratory tests and other related works for
designing the mix formula for M25 concrete.

The client also supplied the required materials: coarse sand and crushed stone aggregates
for the mix design of M25 concrete, Ambuja 43 Gr. PPC Cement as supplied by the client is used
to arrive at the required mix proportion for the M25 grade concrete, the proposed mix design
has been done based as per IS:456:2000 and other relevant IS codes. The details regarding the
mix design is summarized as below:

 Cement: 1 bag (Brand: Ambuja 43 Gr. PPC Cement)

 Sand: Dimdima River Bed
 Crushed stone aggregates: (Pakur as supplied)
 Potable water

2. LABORATORY INVESTIGAIONS CARRIED OUT


The following laboratory tests have been carried out for the finalization of the design mix for
M25 grade concrete:

i. Sieve analysis of fine aggregates (sand): Total wt. of sample taken = 500gm

(iii) Determination of moisture content, specific gravity and water absorption of


different materials.

The following values of moisture content, specific gravity and water absorption have been
obtained in the laboratory for different constituent of concrete (Table 3):

The result of slump test for the trial are presented in table: 6
(v) Compressive strengths (Average) of standard cubes (150mm size) at 7 days and
28 days:
The results of compressive strengths are reported for the trial mixes are presented in Table:

3. TRAIL MIX DESIGN: Grade of concrete: M 25


(a) Design stipulations: Design stipulations are presented below.

1 60 mm. 20.31 --- The mix fails to achieve target


strength.
2 85 mm 22.68 --- The mix is found to be
cohesive the mix seems to be
O.K from strength as well as
cement consumption.
3 40 mm 23.55 --- The mix has height cement
consumption

DESIGN MIX:
From the observation of the test result of different trail mixes above the trail mix no.1 is
recommended as the mix, the details of which are summarized in Table: 5 & 6
