Prerequisite(s): Probability and Statistics 4 - - 4

Course Objective(s):

The students will be able to -

● Develop a solid understanding of linear algebra principles, including determinants,


eigenvalues, and vectors, for effective application in machine learning contexts.
● Differentiate between supervised and unsupervised learning, with a focus on recognizing
and articulating the diverse applications of each paradigm.
● Implement and interpret simple and multiple linear regression models, demonstrating the
ability to predict outcomes based on input features.
● Implement and evaluate classification algorithms, including logistic regression, decision
trees, random forests, and support vector machines, demonstrating competence in solving
classification problems.
● Develop competence in Unsupervised Learning and Clustering

Course Outcome(s):
After successful completion of this course, a student will be able to-
CO-1: Learn importance of linear algebra in Machine Learning and Recognize Machine
Learning Types
CO-2: Proficiency in Linear Regression and Model Regularization Techniques
CO-3: Evaluate and apply ensemble learning methods
CO-4: Apply random forests & fundamentals of Support Vector Machines for regression
and classification and also evaluate the models effectively
CO-5: Clustering Methodologies and the Motivation for Dimensionality Reduction

Introduction to Polynomial Regression: Ridge Regression: Regularization to Handle
Multicollinearity; Lasso Regression: Feature Selection with L1 Regularization; Concepts of
Over-fitting and Generalization;
