White dolphin summaries

Chapter 1:​
Kara sits on the school wall ripping pages from the Bible. Jake bullies her,
mocks her name, parents, and says his dad will chop their boat, Moana. Kara
throws the Bible at him and runs off, leaving him with a bloody nose. Mrs. Carter
yells after her.

Chapter 2:​
Kara runs to Aunt Bev’s house to find her dad, but he’s not home. Dougie Evans
arrives to scold Kara. She grabs her flippers and swimsuit, jumps out the
window, and runs to the harbour to find her father.

Chapter 3:​
Kara finds her dad sailing Moana. They go to the cove. He warns her to stay
away from Jake. Kara asks if it’s true he’s selling Moana and if her mum’s never
coming back. He says yes, and Kara cries and jumps into the sea.

Chapter 4:​
Kara doesn’t return home. She goes to the cove where her mum used to sit and
sees a white dolphin among others. She thinks of her mum, then decides to go
back home as her dad might be waiting.

Chapter 5:​
While walking home, Aunt Bev finds Kara and says the police were looking for
her. At home, Aunt Bev scolds her. Dad hugs and apologizes. Aunt Bev says
Kara’s mum won’t come back and they argue. Dad gets a call about an offer for
Moana.

Chapter 6:​
In the morning, Kara makes Daisy breakfast. Daisy reminds her about Lauren’s
party. In class, Kara writes on sand and remembers the beach with her parents.
Mrs. Carter asks about Jake and the Bible. Kara offers to fix it but won’t
apologize to Jake.
Chapter 7:​
Kara goes to school and feels everyone is staring. She sees a new boy with a
disability. Her friends ignore her because of Jake. Jake and Ethan blame Kara’s
mum for his brother’s death and bully her.

Chapter 8:​
After school, Kara takes Daisy to a café. They see Felix being yelled at and
teased by Jake and Ethan. Daisy stands up for Felix but he responds rudely.
Daisy cries and runs out after throwing her ice cream.

Chapter 9:​
Kara learns Felix called Daisy “Fat Fairy Godmother.” She takes Daisy to the
harbour to cheer her up. They meet Ms. Penluna, the “bird-lady.” Kara tells her
about her mum’s disappearance. Ms. Penluna says she’ll ask angels to find her.

Chapter 10:​
Aunt Bev and Uncle Tom talk. Kara and Dad eat breakfast. Daisy mentions
meeting Ms. Penluna. Dad says someone wants to buy Moana. Kara and Dad
visit Mr. Andersen to discuss it.

Chapter 11:​
Mr. Andersen takes Dad to talk, leaving Kara with Felix. She asks why he was
rude to Daisy. He says he doesn’t want help. His mum complains about him
being on the computer. Mr. Andersen says he and Dad will sail tomorrow. Kara
talks to Felix about bravery before leaving.

Chapter 12:​
Aunt Bev cooks for the Andersons. Dad reveals Felix has cerebral palsy. It’s
windy, but Mr. Andersen wants to sail. On the boat, Felix feels sick and Kara
helps. Jake and Dougie pass by and mock Kara. She remembers Jake’s harsh
words.
Chapter 13:​
Jake and Dougie destroy their lobster pots. Kara wants to call the police, but
Dad says no. Felix hits his head and throws up. Dad teaches him to sail. Kara
feels jealous but impressed. Felix joins Kara in the sea. She sees something
underwater.

Chapter 14:​
Felix dives and sees a cuttlefish. He tries to touch it but grabs ink. They tell the
adults who also dive in. Kara tells Felix about the dredging ban and Dougie
Evans’ scam. She tells him about Aaron’s story.

Chapter 15:​
They sail back. Kara thinks she sees the white dolphin but it’s clouds. The
Andersens leave. Kara and Dad clean Moana. Mr. Andersen later calls to say
they won’t buy the boat. Kara is happy.

Chapter 16:​
Kara is mending the Bible in Mrs. Carter’s office. Mrs. Carter talks about Jake.
Kara thinks of her mum. After leaving, she finds a badly injured baby dolphin at
sea and touches its face.

Chapter 17:​
Kara falls in the water. The dolphin is alive but needs help. Kara remembers
what her mum taught her and keeps the dolphin awake. She doesn’t know what
to do, then hears Felix call her name.

Chapter 18:​
Felix and his dad arrive. Mr. Andersen goes for help. Felix tells Kara he got a
boat. Carl and Greg, Kara’s mum’s old students, arrive. Dad comes too. Carl
says the dolphin won’t survive without a chemical pool.

Chapter 19:​
Kara suggests the Blue Pool. They move the dolphin carefully. The mother
dolphin follows. Carl tells Kara to go home and that they’ll call her dad. Kara
feels guilty for separating the dolphins.
Chapter 20:​
Kara tells Daisy about the baby dolphin and Felix’s involvement in rescuing it.
Daisy remains bitter toward Felix for calling her a "Fat Fairy Godmother" earlier.
Kara and Daisy try to visit the Blue Pool before school, but Aunt Bev stops them.
Kara spots Greg's truck, which gives her hope the dolphin is alive. At school,
Felix shares that the dolphin is alive and being cared for, but the mother is still
missing.

Chapter 21:​
Kara, with the dolphin-shaped memory stick from her mother, visits Ms.
Penluna, hoping she can contact angels for information about her mother. Ms.
Penluna, however, tells her to listen to dolphins as “angels of the sea.” Kara is
disappointed as she realizes Ms. Penluna can’t communicate with real angels
and leaves feeling betrayed.

Chapter 22:​
Kara returns to Daisy at the fish and chips shop, where Daisy insists on knowing
what Ms. Penluna said. Felix and his father arrive, and Kara learns the mother
dolphin hasn’t been found. Daisy accidentally breaks Kara’s necklace, scattering
the memory stick. Felix retrieves it, and Kara reveals it’s from her mother. Felix
offers to read it, and Kara reluctantly lets him. Kara’s dad refuses to help search
for the mother dolphin, and an argument erupts, where Kara accuses her dad of
giving up, like he did with her mother.

Chapter 23:​
Kara dreams of chasing a shell as her mother calls her, but when she turns, her
mother disappears. She wakes up and swims into the ocean, feeling guided by
the mother dolphin. She helps the dolphin reunite with her calf at the Blue Pool.

Chapter 24:​
Kara realizes her encounter with the mother dolphin wasn’t a dream. She
excitedly tells Daisy, and they head to the Blue Pool, where Felix and Carl are
already waiting. They agree to name the baby dolphin “Angel.”

Chapter 25:​
Carl plans a press conference to raise awareness for Angel, and Felix suggests
using social media and an online petition. At school, Mrs. Carter offers help, and
the school decides to support the cause, including providing the hall for the
press conference. Kara’s dad still refuses to get involved, showing a lack of
support.

Chapter 26:​
The school participates in the "Save The Reef" project. Kara notices the positive
impact of their efforts, while Angel’s recovery continues. The press conference is
set up with petitions for people to sign, and Kara recalls that Maori people
believe dolphins carry the spirits of ancestors. Felix uses the Maori word for
dolphin as a possible password for the memory stick.

Chapter 27:​
The press conference begins but faces technical issues. Dougie Evans protests
the dredging ban, claiming it threatens the livelihood of local fishermen. Kara,
urged by Felix, takes the stage and speaks passionately about protecting the
ocean. A film made by her mother is shown, urging people to protect marine life.
The audience reacts positively, and the petition to stop dredging gains hundreds
of signatures.

Chapter 28:​
Carl announces that Angel is recovering well enough to be released. Kara is torn
but hopeful for the dolphin’s future. The press conference has sparked more
support for saving the bay and stopping the dredging.

Chapter 29:​
At dawn, Kara is the first to reach the beach for Angel’s release. Her dad joins
her, and the group prepares to release the dolphin. While Carl and Greg are
concerned about the mother dolphin, Kara senses her presence. Angel reunites
with her mother in the ocean, and Kara feels both a sense of loss and hope for
her own mother’s return.

Chapter 30:​
The success of the press conference and petition is reported in the newspaper.
Dougie Evans, upset by the results, threatens Kara and her family. He fires Uncle
Tom after he signed the petition, and Aunt Bev fears they’ll no longer be able to
support Kara and her dad. Kara and Daisy learn Dougie plans to dredge the reef

Chapter 31:​
Kara and Felix sit by the shore, upset by the damage to the reef caused by
trawlers. Felix is practicing sailing for a regatta. After Felix trips and injures
himself, Kara discovers that her father sold Moana to Dougie Evans, leaving her
shocked and upset.

Chapter 32:​
Kara feels distant from her dad after the Moana sale and is unsure about joining
Felix for the Paralympic sailing team. They hear about a shark caught by Dougie
Evans, but it turns out to be Angel's mother, a dolphin. Kara is devastated.

Chapter 33:​
Kara seeks solace at the cove, where she sees Angel calling for her dead
mother. She tries to comfort Angel, but Felix and Mr. Andersen warn her of the
dangerous waves. Felix gives Kara an envelope with information about her
mother’s disappearance, hinting at the truth.

Chapter 34:​
Inside the envelope, Kara finds a photo of her mother, taken just before her
disappearance. Felix explains her mom likely died during a dive, but it was kept
quiet. Kara accepts her mother’s death. Felix and Kara go to stop Jake and
Ethan from sailing in Moana during an approaching storm.

Chapter 35:​
Kara and Felix follow Jake and Ethan through the storm. Jake falls into the
ocean, and Felix rescues him. Kara helps Ethan, but the storm damages Moana.
Kara uses a flare to signal for help, and they are rescued by a helicopter, but
Moana is destroyed.

Chapter 36:​
Kara and Ethan are rescued, and Kara’s dad hugs her. At the harbor, everyone
worries about Jake and Felix. Felix finally arrives safely after battling the storm,
and everyone cheers.
Chapter 37:​
Kara wakes up to find Daisy has a new sister named Moana. Kara’s dad tells

dredging, and is looking for ways to protect dolphins. Kara's dad surprises her
with a new job opportunity and a new home. Kara comes to terms with her
mom’s death and feels a sense of peace while watching Angel and the dolphins.

Chapter 38:​
Kara wakes up tired and learns from Daisy that she has a new sister named
Moana. Aunt Bev praises Kara for saving Jake and Ethan. Kara’s dad shares that
Dougie Evans gave Uncle Tom his job back, signed the petition to stop
dredging, and thanked Kara for saving Jake. Kara’s dad also surprises her with
news of a boat building course and a new caravan home. At the harbor, Kara
worries about Angel, but her dad reassures her that her mom would be proud.
Kara accepts her mom’s death and feels at peace seeing Angel with the
dolphins, knowing she won’t be alone. This marks a new chapter for Kara and
Angel.
