and celebration.
1. Diwali

4. Onam
● Onam is a harvest festival
celebrated mainly by
Malayali people in Kerala.
● According to legends, the
festival is celebrated to
commemorate King
Mahabali, whose spirit is
said to visit Kerala at the
time of Onam

boat races and tiger dances.
5. Janmashtmi
● Janmashtami or
Gokulashtami, is a major
Hindu festival that
celebrates the birth of
Krishna, the eighth avatar of
Vishnu.

celebrated as a royal
festival.

observing fasts and enacting

symbolically protecting them
and receiving gifts in return

7. Rath Yatra
● Ratha Yatra is a major Oriya
festival.
● On Rath Yatra, the Chariots
of Lord Jagannath, Lord
Balabhadra and their sister
Subhadra are pulled by
devotees.
● The Rath Yatra of Puri,
Orissa is very famous.
8. Dussera
● Vijayadashmi or Dussera is
celebrated every year to
remember God Ram’s
victory over Ravan, the
demon.
● The festival is celebrated by
burning of effigies of Ravan
and his brothers
● The festival symbolises the
victory of good over evil.
