UC1 BOARD
The boards perform the following functions:
Signal acquisition and overall system control.
It has internal 8 channels 10-bit A-D converter. It samples Analog ECG, System temperature,
DIFF-ECG, Battery voltage etc. and sends all data to UC2 in a streamlined manner.

ECG: It digitizes ECG at 240 samples / Sec, Calculates Heart Rate from DIFF-ECG.
It interfaces to 4 channels UART 16C554D. UC1 acquires serial data from NiBP and SpO2 via
the UART. It combines the data and sends it to UC2 for display.

SpO2: Interfaces to SpO2 board via UART.

NiBP: Interfaces to SpO2 board via UART.

DRIVES BUZZER: Controls buzzer tone and changes it according to SpO2 value. This is
accomplished by PWM (Pulse width modulation output). It controls buzzer tone for beep and alarm.

CARDIOPLUS – SERVICE MANUAL Ver 1.0

LCD CONTRAST: UC1 controls LCD contrast as per commands issued to it by UC2. LCD
contrast adjustment is also accomplished by second PWM o/p. This PWM o/p is used to charge cap
C72 (100uF) to change the LCD contrast voltage.

Auto shuts off: The unit when system temperature goes above 80 degrees Celsius and also
when the battery voltage falls below 10.8V.

22.450 MHz CLOCK: Generates and buffers 22.450MHz clock which is used by UART and
UC2 using a single crystal.
x SYSTEM RESET: Resets the entire system (UART, UC2, LCD, and SpO2) using
U2C NAND gate.

x WATCH DOG: UC1 also incorporates “Watchdog” to reset the system in case of any
malfunction or abnormal operation. It will not allow the system to “Hang”. Instead it
will reset and restart fresh.

x CENTRAL DATA TRANSMISSION: Apart from transmitting data to UC2 this

CARDIOPLUS – SERVICE MANUAL Ver 1.0

(D) Interconnects UC1 and UC2 boards with ECG, NiBP, SpO2 and HV boards

C+ is powered either from 15V, 8Amp SMPS (mains operation) or from a 12V, 4.5AH battery. This
11/15V power supply is brought to JP9 (4 pin lockable Molex) connector on HV board and taken to
JP5 on PSMB board.

KEY BOARD INTERFACE BOARD:

On / Off circuit:

This circuit turn C+ unit ON and OFF.

Unit can turn OFF under following conditions:
*OFF switch on front panel is pressed
*When battery voltage goes below 10.8V
(UC1 shut off when battery voltage goes below 10.8V)

Analog ECG Out (Optional)

Buffered analog ECG signal, which comes from the ECG board, is brought to mono jack. This can
be used to connect C+ to analog ECG central monitoring station. The analog ECG will be 0.5V peak
to peak under L2 and Gain =10mm settings.

RS-232 out (optional)

UC1 sends waveform and parameter data to digital central station via P1, 9 pin D male connector.

The signals are at RS-232 levels (+12 to –12V).

JP4 carries +6V to HV board. It also brings in SMPS supply for battery charging. It also carries

other signals LEAD OFF, CABLE ON, BATT-FULL to the HV board, from where UC1 can read

them.

CARDIOPLUS – SERVICE MANUAL Ver 1.0

HV Board:

UC1 controls all functions of defib and the HV board. JP7 connector on UC1 is connected to JP1 on
HV board via. a 20 pin FRC. UC1 data bus, some address lines and few signals are brought to HV
board via this FRC.

Defib keyboard is connected to it via. JP13. UC1 reads this through a buffer to check if any of the
defib keys has been pressed.

JP10 to PSMB interface:

HV board connects to PSMB via a 16 pin FRC @ JP10.

+5V power to digital circuits diode D27 is shorted brought from PSMB board. (O/P of V5)
SMPS voltage is sent to PSMB and is used for battery charging.
LEAD OFF, CABLE ON, BATT-FULL signals are brought from PSMB to HV board, from where
UC1 can read them.

JP12 to Paddle switches interface:

JP12 connects to paddles “charge” and “discharge” switches, current transformer (CT) via. A 10
core shielded cable and self-drain relay coil via. a 2 pin relimate.

Energy can be selected by using encoder on front panel. Default energy after entering defib mode is
200J. UC1 reads the encoder and increments / decrements the energy from 5 to 360J.

HV Capacitor Charging:

HV board generates high voltage for charging the HV capacitor when charge button in the apex is
pressed. Charging takes place through the normally closed contact of the HV relay. Once Capacitor
is charged to the voltage corresponding to the selected energy, buzzer will be activated to indicate
defib ready condition. Now, if both discharge buttons are pressed simultaneously, the HV relay will
be activated and the capacitor will be discharged through the HV relay, 40mH coil, apex, patient,
sternum and current transformer and the delivered energy will be displayed in the screen.

CARDIOPLUS – SERVICE MANUAL Ver 1.0

Self (internal) discharge:

After HV cap gets charged to required energy level, if the discharge keys are not pressed within 20
seconds UC1 send signal to de-energize the normally closed self discharge relay. The HV cap then
discharges through the 100k & relay combination

Stored Energy Measurement:

UC1 samples stored energy in the HV cap during charging. This is used by UC to display the bar
graph while charging.
Delivered Energy Measurement:

Delivered energy is measured by measuring the peak current using a current transformer (CT) in the
sternum paddle wire.
Paddle ECG:

The ECG from Apex and Sternum is connected to Paddle ECG board(mounted to HV relay) and
from there it is going to ECG board thorough 2 core cable.

ECG BOARD

ECG board performs the following functions:

· Generates isolated power supply for Preamp

CARDIOPLUS – SERVICE MANUAL Ver 1.0

· Preamp connects to patient and amplifies ECG signal

· Incorporates Defib protection and Electro surgery filters
· Changes ECG leads and Gain as controlled by UC1
· Sends Analog ECG for display and DIFF-ECG for heart rate calculation to UC1 ADC.
* Send ECG-OUT buffered analog ECG to power board for connection to Central Station.

Power supply:

Power supply for Post Amp = +5V and –5V.

+5V is also fed to DC-DC converter which generates isolated +/-5V supplies (VCC and VEE) for
Pre-Amp.

Input Buffers:

1mV signals from RA, LA, LL, RL and V lead (from 5-lead cable) are fed to i/p buffers RLC filter
stages to reduce high frequency noise. Each input has protection diodes to avoid the input voltage
going more positive / negative than supply voltage.

Drive:

The common mode 50Hz noise from RA, LA and LL patient leads is summed, amplified and
inverted and fed back into the patient’s body, for 50Hz noise cancellation.

Lead Off circuit:

This circuit generate LEAD-OFF signal when any lead is disconnected.

Cable / Paddle ECG detection:

This circuit generate CABLE-ON signal in the post amplifier when patient cable is connected.

Analog ECG-OUT:
The amplified ECG is buffered and brought to the phone jack connector on the PSMB, for
connecting it to analog central station.
