Chapter 6
1. What did Jekyll say in response to Utterson’s inquiry regarding Hyde?
Jekyll said that he would never set eyes on Hyde again and also no one would ever see
him again
2. Why did Jekyll want Utterson to have the letter? Who was it from? What did it say
Jekyll was unsure whether or not to show the letter to the police. It was from Hyde and
it said That Hyde felt guilty for his actions that caused a lot of trouble to Dr Jekyll who
was so generous to him
4. What did Guest conclude after seeing (comparing) the two letters?
He concluded that Hyde’s handwriting and Jekyll’s handwriting were quite familiar. The
two styles were identical. They are just differently sloped.
Chapter 7 and 8
1. How did Dr Jekyll behave at the time of Hyde’s disappearance?
( How the absences of Hyde affected Jekyll positively)
The absences of Hyde had affected him greatly. he doctor had stopped hiding away from
people in his house. He started meeting people again, he renewed his good work in
society and was seen in church. His face was bright again, and he looked healthier. He
was at peace.
2. What was Jekyll’s respond to Utterson’s letter asking about his disappearance and
what had happened between him and Lanyon?
Jekyll said that Lanyon not to be blamed and they should never meet again. Jekyll added
that he must shut his door and never deal with others and he asked Utterson to respect
his silence.
3. What type of document did Utterson find the night of Lanyon's funeral? What was
written there
Utterson found an envelope on which was written “private to Utterson” and not to be
opened till the death or disappearance of Dr. Henry Jekyll."
5. Why did Poole think that something terrible had happened to his master?
He thought this because a week ago he heard him crying for mercy .And for this week
he had been asking for some medicine, even his voice was changed so Poole thought
that someone had killed him.
6. What did Poole and Utterson see when they entered Jekyll’s laboratory?
They saw Hyde’s dead body who had poisoned himself and a new will from Jekyll that all
his money should go to Utterson instead of Hyde
9. “I can’t talk about it. But if you can’t avoid the topic of Jekyll, please go”
These words were said by Dr Lanyon to Utterson at his house. When Utterson wanted to
ask about Dr Jekyll and Lanyon refused to talk about him as he didn’t want to reveal the
strange matter he had discovered about Jekyll.
10. “ I started experimenting. I knew very well this meant the risk to death”
These words were written down by Jekyll in the letter he had left for Utterson before his
death. This emphasis the theme of duality of human nature and thar Jekyll decided to
feed the evil part inside him which led to his miserable death.
