Statement of Purpose

The way computers have changed the definition of “Being Connected”

and how the world got shrunk to our fingertips has always amazed
me. I was always curious fascinated to know how computers work and
what can be the newer ways to explore the world of computers to
make our lives better. Computers have taken over every inch of the
civilized world and they have a steady impact on our lives. Some of
the most exciting technological developments today are taking place
in the world with the help of computer science and I always wanted to
be an active contributor. Currently employed at Wipro Technologies
Limited, India as a software engineer, I am working for noted Telecom
Client Ericsson, on its CMX product (which is software running on the
CMXB3 board and provides 1GE/10GE/40GE switching/routing
solution for nodes based on EGEM2-10/EGEM2-40 shelves and
CAX2.0 units in CAS shelves). I am responsible for writing and
executing Test scripts in Java for the automation of new requirements
for various supported L2/L3 protocols in CMX4.0. During my 2.5 years
of work experience, I have learnt various networking protocols and
understood the communication networks to a great extent. However, I
feel that I have reached a stage, where a graduate degree will go a
long way to fast-forward my career and my craving for research.
After completing my school at College of Basic Science & Humanities,
Bhubaneswar, India, I pursued my undergraduate studies (B.Tech) in
Information Technology at Institute of Technical Education &
Research (ITER), Siksha O Anusandhan (SOA) University,
Bhubaneswar, India. In my opinion, under-graduate study was the
most important step in my preparation for a career in research and a
demonstration of my ability for the same. Although I scored some
average grades in the first few semesters, I saw through my
shortcomings and worked hard on them. My commitment and zeal
helped me perform well in the successive semesters. As I progressed
into the core subjects in the subsequent semesters, I started enjoying
even more with computer organization, RDBMS, Programming
languages and AI . But what amazed me most was computer
networks, its extensive and pervasive use in our daily lives, its
criticality, simplicity and yet it’s complex but reliable nature. The
concepts of computer networks came naturally to me and I was
amazed and baffled by the ingenuity and relation networking with
natural flora and fauna. In the seventh Semester, I presented a
seminar on Red Tacton-A Human Area Networking Technology, which
uses the surface of the human body as a high speed and safe network

transmission path. Besides theoretical work, I gained practical
knowledge in Computer Science through internships and various
project works. I worked as an intern at Indian Institute of Technology
(IIT) Kanpur on prediction of air pollution concentration over a city
using a computational dispersion model (USEPA AERMOD software)
that is based on the algorithm written in FORTRAN. After completion
of my internship, I collaborated with a PhD scholar at IIT Kanpur to
publish my research work in an International Journal.
As a part of my academic curriculum, I completed two projects during
my Final year, where I developed a web based Gadget Shopping
portal using Java. In the subsequent project, I developed an E-
Learning portal which was considered for implementation at the
college library. These projects helped me to acquire several
conventions and good practices that are used in the IT industry, and
to understand their importance at an early period.
Besides academic curriculum, I was actively involved in various
extracurricular activities. As part of a community service initiative,
‘Srishti’, I was involved in teaching under-privileged students in the
locality. We conducted classes and donation camps every weekend
and promoted and encouraged literacy. Our pioneering efforts were
hugely appreciated by the management and the initiative, which
started with only a few handful of children, soon rose to over 100
children and for that reason, we were featured in a local newspaper
and a magazine. In addition, I was in the core committee that hosted
university's annual Tech-fest. I also won the 2nd prize in photography
and 1st prize in Badminton in annual fest at my University.
My job at Wipro Technologies Ltd. after under graduation was
another important step in my preparation towards pursuing a
research degree. I started working for a Telecom Client in the area of
computer networking, where I learnt L2, L3 Networking protocols and
gained hands on experience in Java programming. I stood in the top
5% during my training in terms of performance.
After having worked for almost 3 years in the projects of Computer
Networking and Health Care domain, I have a far better perspective
on immense scope in these fields. There are loads of new concepts
and methodologies that I am yet to learn and understand. A Graduate
degree in the field of wireless sensor network is thus, the next logical
step which would equip me with extensive core knowledge of the
subject and enable me to attain my vision and make it a success.

With the association that I share with the research done in your
University, I would like to contribute to the research going in the
School of Computer Engineering at your University to the best of my
capacity and utilize the facilities in a responsible manner. I strongly
believe that I can deliver and live up to your expectations with the
best of conduct. The ongoing work in the area of "Wireless Sensor
Network” is the closest research domain to what, I am interested to
pursue as the original component. After literature review from the
Journal articles published by faculties in this research domain, I am
confident that a graduate degree from your esteemed University will
definitely widen the horizons of my knowledge and help me attain a
milestone in my career. I have attached a possible research plan along
with application for my graduation study at your University.
