1. Report for duty on time in proper uniform, designation badge and ID Card.
2. Be aware of your duties and responsibilities.
3. Provide privacy and treat patients with respect and dignity. Be kind, polite and empathetic.
4. Maintain confidentiality of patient details and keep their records and register under safe
custody.
5. Be honest and trustworthy.
6. Be emotionally stable to handle any situation.
7. Have cordial relationship with colleagues and members of the health team.
8. Avoid using mobile phone during duty hours except for emergency. Usage of Bluetooth,
earphones is strictly prohibited.
9. Remain in your workstation.
10. Always follow professional ethics and nursing standards.
11. Always identify and address the patients with two names. (Patient name with father’s name
or spouse name).
12. Keep controlled and dangerous drugs under safe custody.
13. Untoward incident happened on duty needs to be communicated to the immediate
supervisor on duty.
14. Follow the laid down policies, SOP’s and protocols.
15. Avoid misuse of hospital properties.
16. Be aware of rights and responsibilities of patients.
17. Never harm patients/family members by abusive words or deeds.
18. Be responsible for all patients under your care and all equipments/devices available in
your unit/ward.

19. Never giggle or talk about the patient in front of them.
20. Have to update the professional and technological skills.
21. Follow hierarchy in all your communications.
22. Never give chemical restrain to patients without doctors order.
23. Learn the local language to communicate with patients and family members.
24. Act as liaison between the patients and other members of the health team.
25. Learn excellent communication skills and critical thinking to deal with patient and health
care team.
26. Participate in Staff Development Programs.
27. Never take photograph of patients or patient case record or any other hospital related
documents.
28. Coordinate patient care activities with other health care team members are to be carried out
in the interest of better patient outcome.
29. Never delegate skilled nursing task to unskilled workers.
30. Nurses are responsible to all the works delegated to them.
31. Never do any personal work while on duty.
32. Never give prescription for drugs or consumables that are available in JIPMER.
33. Never involve in personal celebrations and business works while on duty.
34. Never pass commands on superiors or institution in social media like whatsapp, facebook,
instagram etc.,
35. Nurses should not bring their children when they are on duty.
