Method Statement for Painting

1. SCOPE

This procedure is applicable for doing the painting works of internal and external walls for
ground floor villa. The scope includes installation of scaffolding, cleaning of surface, application
of primer, putty and painting for internal and external walls.

2. RESPONSIBILITY

Execution Engineer:
Shall be responsible for providing resources and supervision at site during execution. Shall be
accountable for following the specifications and drawings as provided by the Consultant
Engineer. Shall be aware of complete health and safety procedures & precautions and implement
the same during the execution.

Consultant Engineer:
Shall supervise and advice on technical specifications and maintain documentation of progress.
Shall be aware of quality requirements & carry out necessary inspection to maintain proper
quality.

1. Jotun Emulsion Fenomastic Matt Paint (approved Color) for Internal Walls
2. Jotun Jotashield Weatherproof Matt Paint (approved color) for External Walls
3. Jotun Acrylic Primer
4. Jotun Stucco Putty Filler

1. Installation of steel scaffolding up to 6m height around exterior periphery of the villa and
check the uprights, firmness and safety of the same.
2. Mobile Aluminum scaffolding will be used for internal painting works as per
requirement.
3. Surface must be clean dry and in sound condition. Remove all dust, oil, grease, loose
paint and other materials to ensure adequate adhesion. No paint shall be applied to
surface structurally or superficially damp and all surfaces should be free from
condensation and efflorescence.
4. The surface shall be first scrapped with a scrapper and then rubbed and smoothed with
sanding paper to remove loose particles, disbanded paint & irregularities.
5. Apply one coat of Acrylic Emulsion Primer with paint brushes and rollers, maintaining a
minimum overlapping of 5cm between two strokes. After application of primer coat the
surface should not show any effect of the previous paint. After drying of surface make
sure that the surface is free from any irregularities.
6. First coat of putty will be applied, dried and sanded. Then second coat will be done and
process will be repeated to get a smooth finished surface.
7. Prepare paint by thoroughly stirring it in the container and adding approved thinner if
required. Mixing shall be carried out in well ventilated area.
8. Apply one coat of paint with brushes and rollers, maintaining a minimum overlapping of
5cm between two strokes.
9. Each coat shall be allowed to dry before application of any succeeding coat. Surface shall
be cleaned and free of spray dust before the next coat is applied.
10. Coatings shall be continuous that means free of pin holes, voids, bubbles and other
defects.

6. HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT (HSE)

1. All necessary PPEs, gloves, masks, goggles and paint removing agent shall be
available with all workmen.
2. Only trained & experienced workmen shall be deployed for this job.
3. Sufficient width of working platform & hand railing should be provided as per safety
plan when working at height.
4. Extra precaution shall be taken to protect eyes while painting the ceiling.
