SECTION A

QUESTION 1

Indicate whether the following statements are TRUE or FALSE. Write only 'true' or
'false' next to the question number (1.1–1.10) in the ANSWER BOOK and correct the
statements if they are FALSE.

1.1 Too many cool colours in a room can make children restless.

1.2 The basic requirements for the heating and ventilating of playrooms are to
provide a comfortable temperature and supply of air in order to avoid
accumulation of unpleasant odours and overheating of rooms that are
exposed to the sun.

1.3 When a toy is attached to a string the free length of the string could be of any
length.

1.4 Lighting has an impact on how children feel and learn in the playroom
therefore the playroom should be free of shadows, direct glare or brightness.

1.5 Good ventilation in an outdoor play area is not as important as in the

playroom.

1.6 The dramatic or fantasy play area must only be set up indoors.

1.7 Participation in the gross motor play leads children to develop a greater
awareness of their bodies and such play challenges them to discover what
their bodies can do.

1.8 Incorporating non-poisonous plants, flowers, shrubs and trees into an outdoor
play space allow children the opportunity to learn about and develop an
appreciation for nature, science and natural beauty.

1.9 Injuries in an outdoor play area usually occur because of inadequate

supervision, improper use of equipment/toys, using equipment that was
designed for older or younger children and poor maintenance of equipment.

1.10 Left-handed children using right-handed scissors will find that they cannot see
the line they are supposed to be cutting along and thus the paper or card will
bend between the blades rather than be cut cleanly.
