TCP IB

The TCP IB is a cheap solution for bay control units of the

SIPC.
The TCP is a unit composed by a modular HW (see page 4) The unit is based on a 16 bits microprocessor and it has

TCP, and so on.

TCP IH

The TCP IH is the most powerful solution offered by T&A for

the bay control units.

It has serial communication and Ethernet communication

ports, as well as a great cpacity of data processing, since it
is based on a 32 bits microprocessor. Besides, it also offers
the possiblity of a redundant power supply, IRIG-B input for
synchronization, ...

All the aforementioned features make the TCP IH be a very

powerful and reliable solution that fulfills the most deman-
ding needs of the most modern substation automation
systems currently installed.

PROTECTION MODULE
DESCRIPTION EXAMPLE OF CONNECTION DIAGRAM

The TCP-C
C can allocate different protection devices:

PL300: Multifunctional protection relay that offers a great

amount of models with different applications. There are 12
different models divided into 4 families: Non directional pro-
tections, directional protections, protection for the connec-
tion of distributed generators and protection for distribution
centres. (For further information consult PL300 catalog).

PL300 FI: Breaker failure protection relay which is used for

MV and HV breakers. It provides backup protection when
the primary breaker fails to clear a fault. There are 4 diffe-
rent functional models. (For further information consult
PL300 FI catalog)

PL300 BC: Capacitor bank protection relay which gives a

complete protection for shunt capacitor banks and controls
the capacitor bank connection/disconnection for power
factor correction. These banks can be single or double, and
in this last case they can be equal or different. There are 3
different functional models (For further information consult
PL300 BC catalog)

PD300: Differential protection relay which is used as the

main protection and control unit for two or three winding
transformers, for both internal faults and fault in the influen-
ce area of current transformers. There is a specific PD300
model for generator's protection and 2 different functional
models. (For further information see PD300 catalog).

PM300: Multifunction protection relay which is used as the

main measurement, protection and control unit for motors.
(For further information see PM300 catalog).

HARDWARE DESCRIPTION

All the different models that can be allocated within the TCP
have their own power supply which is independent from the
TCPs power supply module.

They also provide an RS232 front port that enables easy

access to all its functions. More over, TCPs rear ports ena-
ble local or remote access to the protection allowing its inte-
gration into an Integrated Protection and Control System.

From the digital inputs/outputs point of view, the protection

unit can have one or two digital input/output boards in order
to collect digital signals.

Note: The protections model selection is done as if it

was an independent protection but indicating that it is
TCP integrated. (Consult model selection tables in each
protections catalogue).

ALARM UNIT

OPERATION
The status of an alarm can be:
• Level 0 : The alarm is "non active" (that alarm's input is 0). It is displayed as a
square with black text on white background.
• Level 1 : The alarm is "active" (that alarms's input is 1) and hasn´t been ackno-
wledged . It is displayed as a square with white text over black background and
oblique black and white lines on the upper and lower edges.
• Level 2 : The alarm is "active" (that alarm's input is 1) and has been acknowleged.
It is displayed as a square with white text on black background.

If any of the pages has an unidentified active alarm, it receives first level priority. If any
of the pages has an identified active alarm, it receives second level priority behind
those containing unidentified active alarms.

Press "INF" to access the next pages. Once the programmed time (programmed
"TEMPORIZ" parameter) passes, it goes automatically to the next page. It runs in a
loop format.
DESCRIPTION
The TCP-A A, TCP-MM, TCP-C C, TCP-Q Q and TCP-R R units can
also incorporate an alarm device function, which incorpora-
tes the following:
• Display of digital signals status incorporated in the TCP
rack.
• Display of the status of the digital inputs/outputs incor-
porated in the TCP
• Time and date display.
• Display of up to 112 alarms with programmable descrip-
tion text.

The TCP-A A includes up to 16 signalling Leds, besides the

alarm unit functions. Each LED has its individual identifying
label which can be modified by the user. (For further infor-
mation about the alarm unit, see the TCP-A Annunciator
catalogue).

TRANSFORMER TAP REGULATOR UNIT

CHARACTERISTICS
The three tap changer regulators, incorporate the following tap
changer surveillance characteristics, in order to protect the tap
changer:
• Overcurrent locking
• Undervoltage locking
• Quick return voltage

They also include enough digital inputs, digital outputs and analo-
gue inputs to operate.

In order to set up a complete control and protection system for the

transformer, these unit may be complemented with the PD300 (87)
and/or PL300 protection units. They can also be integrated in a
Protection and Control Integrated System (SIPC).

DESCIPTION APPLICATION EXAMPLE

TCP/RM, TCP/RT and TCP/RC units make up a family of
units for power transformer voltage regulation, actuating
upon the tap changer of those transformers, using the
current and voltage values measured by the units.
• TCP/RM Single phase regulator: It acts upon three indepen-
dent tap changers using current and voltage values of each
phase, being the settings common to those three. It is used in
those cases where a tap changer for each phase exists, allo-
wing each phase´s tap being in different position and therefore
regulating each phase separately.

• TCP/RT Three phase regulator: It acts upon a three phase tap

changer using measured current and voltage values. It is used
in those cases where a single tap changer is used to manage
power transformer´s three phases. It may work in parallelism
conditions.

• TCP/RC Three phase regulator with reactive compensation: It

acts upon a three phase tap changer using measured current
and voltage values. It is used in installations where two power
transformers with different tap/voltage ratio are connected in
parallel.

CAPACITOR BANK UNIT
MODELS
There are four different models of PL300 BC, according to
whether the banks to protect and control, are one or two in
double star and the earthing connection type of the net-
work where the bank is installed:
• A model: Unit for single or double star capacitor banks
with isolated neutral.
• B model: Unit for single or double star capacitor banks
with earthed neutral.

The TCP-C with PL300 BC is a very powerful unit for the
control and protection of capacitor bank bays, thanks to the • C model: Unit for two banks in double star with isolated

PL300 BC as a specific unit for the Protection and Control
of capacitor banks.

APPLICATION
The PL300 BC units have a double application, giving a
complete protection for shunt capacitor banks and also
controlling the capacitor bank connection/disconnection
for power factor correction. These banks can be single or
double, and in this last case they can be equal or different.
The connection/disconnection automation has the follo-
wing operation modes:
