QUESTION 1 - [STRUCTURAL STEEL) [134]

1. Set the layers as follows:

Use the following Layers, Linetype and Colours


Borders and T Block frame - Continuous - Colour 3
Line Diagram – Continuous – Colour 2
Text - Continuous - Colour 2
Title Block Text - Continuous - Colour 1
Structural Steel members – Continuous – Colour 3
Bolts - Continuous - Colour 2
Viewport - Continuous - Colour 2
Centrelines - Centre - Colour 15
Dimensions - Continuous - Colour 1
Gusset Plate - Continuous - Colour 3
2. Setup an A0 Paper size in Paper space with border lines located 20mm from the page edge.
Use Plotter (DWG To PDF.pc3)
3. Create a complete title block for this drawing. Extend the left vertical line of the titleblock until
the top borderline. Use 7mm text height for your name and surname. Use a 5mm text height
for all the other text in the titleblock.

4. Draw a line diagram for Figure 1 below to a scale 1:50 or smaller and typically bolted sections
for Detail A, Detail B and Detail C at a scale of 1:5 in AutoCad using the information given
below. (45)

Members are as follows:

a) Internal bracing members: 100x100x15mm L


b) King post: 150x150x15mm L
c) Rafters: 2 x (150x150x15mm) L
d) Main tie: 2 x (150x150x15mm) L

Use:

i. 20mm thick gusset plate


ii. 20mm distance between members
iii. 20mm diameter bolts for internal bracings
iv. 24mm diameter bolts for the rafters and king post

5. Draw a fully dimensioned section through the following members at a scale of 1:2. (3 x 10)
a) 203x102x25 I-section (Taper flange)
b) 150x90x15 L-section (Unequal angle)
c) 203x203x71 H-section (Parallel flange)

6. Produce a base to column connection drawing. Draw this connection in THIRD ANGLE
ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTIONS. You are required to draw both views (Front and Right
view). The front view is in the direction of the full length of the web of the column. Make use
of the information below to draw this connection: (30)
i. Concrete footing – 1050x1050x550
ii. Grout – 25 mm thick grout
iii. Column – 203x203x86 kg H-section
iv. Base plate – 900x900x25 mm thick
v. Cleat – 150x150x15 angle iron cleats
vi. Connection – Each cleat is bolted to each flange of the column by means of 4 x 24 mm
diameter bolts and it also bolted to the base plate by means of 8 x 24 mm diameter
bolts.
vii. HD bolts – 4 x 24 mm diameter, located at 400 mm away from centre to centre of the
square footings.

7. For number 4, 5 & 6 above: (30)


a) Show all the dimensions to enable a trouble-free manufacturing. Annotate all text
and dimensions.
b) Set the text and dimension style correctly for each view port.
c) Use 3mm text height for dimension text and other text. Text (Arial font, Regular,
3mm)

d) Use 2mm for Oblique ticks and arrowhead for leaders.
e) Create a viewport for each detail and the line diagrams on the layout for this drawing.
f) Add Title (7mm) and scale (3mm).
8. Plot to PDF (10)
9. Save and submit a drawing and PDF files (@dwg and @PDF). Save your files while in
paperspace. (10)

It is critical that you give yourself enough time to save work and submit in the specified files.
Failure to submit both files may lead in obtain zero marks for the work complete.
