INSTALLATION

Main Dream mod package

 Delete all DREAM.DFMOD files, if u update from much older version
(there were name changes in the past and overwrite would not work properly)

 Extract "DREAM xxxxx.RAR" file somewhere

 Copy „Mods" & „SpellIcons" & „Presets" & „Movies“ folders to the

"..Daggerfall\DaggerfallUnity_Data\StreamingAssets"

so it ends up like this:

"..Daggerfall\DaggerfallUnity_Data\StreamingAssets\Mods"
"..Daggerfall\DaggerfallUnity_Data\StreamingAssets\SpellIcons"
"..Daggerfall\DaggerfallUnity_Data\StreamingAssets\Presets"
"..Daggerfall\DaggerfallUnity_Data\StreamingAssets\Movies"

 Overwrite if asked

Tweaks for the best graphics - Settings.INI
1. Open the "settings.ini" at:

"C:\Users\**your user name**\AppData\LocalLow\Daggerfall Workshop\Daggerfall Unity "

2. Change the following lines and save the file afterwards!

ExteriorShadowDistance = 150 - Max value which will stay saved - dont go above that !

MobileNPCShadows = True - Adds shadows to commoners

GeneralBillboardShadows = True - Adds shadows to various smaller sprites

NatureBillboardShadows = True - Adds back tree shadows!

TerrainHeightmapPixelError = 1 - To ensure Distant Terrain Mod works as intended

WELL DONE!
Now we can start the game and continue …

Now please make sure all the DFMOD packages are enabled in-game
To do so, on a 1st page click “MODs” in the bottom left corner and u get to this screen

ENABLING PRESETS INGAME

Once the Presets were copied to the correct folder in previous steps:

Open the "MODS" section in the bottom left corner of the main game menu again
1) click on the mod you want to set up (here is a example of new DREAM – BACKGROUNDS)
2) click on the „Settings“

Click on „Presets“

Another tab will open, click the preset namew so its selected and press ESC.
Please take note that not all mod have settings, and thus have no presets as well.

Field of view notes

In this game, I like FOV to be a bit smaller because the sprites and art is in a better focus.
FOV = 75 works nicely on 16:10 monitor.

Terrain distance notes

2 - looks good and saves performance, memory & grants faster streaming
I do recommend this
4 – significantly prolongs loading & causes world streaming stutters
I do not recommended even on High end CPU + SSD etc

(These notes apply if you are using Distant Terrain + Dream Reccomended Terrain mod)

POST-PROCESSING SETTINGS

Load the game, press ESC and hover your mouse to the top left corner & click Effect Settings

With DREAM, we use only Ambient Occlusion, Bloom & Motion Blur.
Antialiasing in injected thru ReShade. If you dont use ReShade, enable „SMAA (Quality: High)“

Set the values exactly according to the following screens:

NVIDIA CONTROL PANEL SETTINGS

 Open nVidia Control Panel

 Navigate to “Manage 3D settings > Program settings”
 Add the Daggerfall Unity.exe to create a custom profile

These settings are for standard Vsync monitor, no VRR etc. Important part is the Anisotropy and Texture
filtering settings.

Low latency Mode is nice for a more responsive mouse control. If you use Vsync like me, a good tweak to
do is limiting your FrameRate in MSI afterburner to same amount as your refresh rate.
For me, its 60. It further improves responsibility and smoothness.

RESHADE SETUP

If u used ReShade previously, its good idea to uninstall it 1st

Reshade will detect old installation when you finalize the step 5) of " Detailed Guide " section
bellow. It will show Modify/UNINSTALL - select uninstall. Than proceed with the installation again.

TLDR guide for ppl who know whats up:

1. Place the INI directly into your DFU folder, next to "DaggerfallUnity.Exe"
2. Run the Reshade installer
3. Select DirectX 10/11/12
4. Select the preset file - DREAM 2023 - Recommended.ini
5. Hit 'Next' when it shows you what effects will be installed.
6. Launch the game and make sure the preset is selected in the Reshade menu (Home by default)

Detailed guide for the rest:

0) Place "DREAM 2023.INIs" to the folder where your "DaggerfallUnity.Exe" is located
(if lost, get there by right clicking the DFU icon on your Desktop and selecting "Open File Location)

1) Start ReShade_Setup_5.4.2.exe
2) Click "Browse"
3) Navigate to your "DaggerfallUnity.exe" (Game folder - example: "C:\GAMES\Daggerfall")
4) Click 1x on "DaggerfallUnity.exe" & than click "Open". Than click "Next" at the bottom of the next screen
5) Select "Direct x 10/11/12" and click Next
6) Click "Browse" and navigate to the "DREAM 2023 - Recommended.ini" which u placed there in step 0)
7) Click 1x on that Ini and than click "Open"
8) Click on "Next" at the bottom of the next screen
9) Click "Next" again - ReShade will download the shaders needed for my preset to work
10) Finish

DONE! Next is ReShade preset enabling

RESHADE DREAM PRESET LOADING

ReShade starts automatically when you start the game, displaying info at top of the screen briefly.

1) Open the ReShade menu by pressing "Home" key - click "Skip tutorial"
2) At the top you can see "ReShadePreset" - Click it
3) Click on "DREAM 2023 - Recommended or DREAM 2023 - Optimized"
4) Click on "Select"

5) At the bottom right corner of the screen, Tick (enable) the "Performance mode"
That will speed-up the shader compilation at each start of the game.

6) I suggest setting up ReShade ON/OFF key to "End" key (or any key u like)
Set it up in the "settings" - "general" - "effect toggle key"
Now u can easily compare ON/OFF

As u can see, you can select from RECOMMENDED or OPTIMIZED preset.

OPTIMIZED preset is basically the recommended one without some effects, to keep
the performance impact lower for weaker HW without sacrificing too much fidelity.

ReShade Troubleshooting
-----------------------------------

Old fix for PCs where Reshade is crashing the game on startup:
rename dxgi.dll and dxgi.log to d3d11.dll and d3d11.log respectively.
Try it only if u have problems.
