type series SITRANS TSinsert, TS100, TS200, TS500

The temperature sensors of type series SITRANS TSinsert, TS100, TS200 and TS500 are
used to convert temperature values into an electrical signal for temperature measurement in
industrial plants and testing facilities. The sensors may be combined with several terminal
housings, neck tubes and process connectors. Type series SITRANS TS500 is also available
with a built-in, separately certified measuring transducer and an DVM-LCD-display.
Resistance thermometers and thermocouples are used as sensors which are embedded in a
sleeve made of stainless steel or a NiCr-alloy. The sensors are connected to an intrinsically
safe circuit. The temperature sensors may be applied as EPL-Ga or EPL-Da equipment in
areas with explosive gas/air-mixtures or combustible dusts.

Specific conditions of use

1. For relationship between maximum permissible ambient / medium temperature,
temperature class, maximum power of the intrinsically safe circuit and thermal resistance
of the sensors, reference is made to the tables given above and in the operating
instructions manual.
2. When applied as EPL-Ga or EPL-Da equipment, the temperature sensors of type series
SITRANS TSinsert, TS100, TS200 and TS500 shall be electrostatically connected
(contact resistance ≤ 1 MΩ) to the local equipotential bonding system (e.g. by means of
a grounding terminal).
3. For the application as EPL-Ga or EPL-Da equipment, those variants of the temperature
sensors, type series SITRANS TSinsert, TS100, TS200 and TS500 for which the
material Aluminium is used, shall be installed as such that the generation of sparks due
to impact or friction processes between Aluminium and steel (except for stainless steel, if
the existence of rust particles can be excluded) is impossible.
4. When applied as EPL-Ga or EPL-Da equipment, the connection of the temperature
sensors to an intrinsically safe circuit of level of protection “ib“ is permissible only in
combination with a protective tube made of non-corroding material (e.g. stainless steel)
with a minimum wall thickness of 1 mm.
5. For those variants of temperature sensors which are provided with a separately certified
electronic unit installed in the connection head, the electrical parameters and
specifications of the respective certificate for the installed equipment shall apply.
The maximum input power Pi of the installed equipment shall not exceed the value of 1 W.
6. For electrical data for the application as EPL-Gc equipment with type of protection “nA” or
“ec” respectively, reference is made to the operating instructions manual.
7. The temperature sensors of type series SITRANS TS100 / TS200 must not be operated
with plug connectors in hazardous areas due to combustible dusts.
8. When the temperature sensor SITRANS TSinsert is used with flexible leads the ends of
the leads shall be shortened as far as to ensure a minimum clearance of 2 mm between
bare parts of different electrical circuits among each other and to the grounded enclosure.
