4. Specification
4.1. Significance and Use

4.1.1. This specification is for hot rolled low carbon or high-strength low alloy steel sheet and
strip in the pickled and oiled condition which is supplied to minimum tensile yield point.

4.1.2. Material is intended to be used for parts which may require minimum mechanical
properties. Material can be fabricated by moderate cold bending, moderate hot forming, punching,
and welding. Material is also suitable for general purpose machining.

4.1.3. Acceptance limits are statistically significant as indicated in CES 99020 unless
specifically excepted.

4.2. Chemical Composition

Chemical composition shall be specified by Appendix A, Table 1 when tested in accordance with
ASTM A751.

4.3. Physical Properties

There are no physical properties required by this specification.

4.4. Mechanical Properties

4.4.1. Tensile properties shall be as indicated in Appendix A, Table 2 when tested in

accordance with ASTM A370.

4.4.2. When tested in accordance with ASTM E290, material shall be capable of being bent at
room temperature in any direction through 90 degrees with an inside radius of two and one- half
thickness (2 1/2 T) without cracking on the outside of the bend.

4.5. Structure

Microstructure shall be ferrite and pearlite.

4.6. Additional Requirements

4.6.1. Material shall be supplied in the mill pickled and oiled condition with cut or slit edge.

4.6.2. Quality and tolerances shall be as shown in ASTM A568.
