1423120250428131843-Itc05 Final Project Guidelines

The final project for students at Universidad de Dagupan's School of Information Technology Education focuses on database design and implementation, requiring the creation of a relational database based on a selected application scenario. Students must design a schema with at least five tables, including primary and foreign keys, and implement it using SQL, alongside submitting a project paper and demonstrating their work. Evaluation will be based on the quality of documentation and the practical test performance.

Final Project Guidelines

Project Overview
This project aims to provide the students with hands-on experience in database design and
implementation. Students will select a simple application scenario, design a corresponding
relational database, and create the database using SQL. The project reinforces skills in
database modeling, table creation, and basic SQL operations.

Project Objectives
By completing this project, students will be able to:

 Identify key entities and their relationships within an application.

 Design a simple database schema in accordance with relational database principles.
 Implement the database schema using standard SQL commands.
 Apply basic constraints such as primary keys and foreign keys.

Project Requirements
1. Application Selection
Students must select one simple application for the database project. Examples include:

 Pet Adoption Center (Pets, Adopters, Adoption Records)

 Small Online Store (Products, Customers, Orders)
 School Information System (Students, Classes, Teachers)
 Movie Rental Service (Movies, Customers, Rentals)

Students may propose their own application ideas, subject to instructor approval.

2. Database Design
Students must design a database that includes:

 A minimum of five (5) tables containing:

o A primary key.
o At least two 23) additional attributes.
 At least one foreign key relationship connecting two or more tables.
 Proper consideration of appropriate data types for each attribute.
 The database shall be normalized up to the third normal form (3NF)

Students must submit a Crow's Foot Entity-Relationship Diagram (ERD) illustrating the
tables, attributes, and relationships.

3. Database Implementation in SQL

Students must implement the database by:

 Writing SQL statements to create the tables.

 Defining primary keys and foreign keys appropriately.
 Inserting at least three (3) sample records into each table.

Deliverables
Students must submit the following:

 A brief description (1 paragraph) of the chosen application.

 An Entity-Relationship Diagram (ERD) showing the database structure.
 A SQL script file containing:
o CREATE TABLE statements.
o INSERT INTO statements with sample data.

In addition, there will be a practical test during which students will be required to:

 Demonstrate their database (created in their local system or hosted environment).

 Perform basic SQL queries upon request, including but not limited to:
o SELECT statements with conditions (WHERE, ORDER BY).
o Basic JOIN operations between tables.
o Simple aggregate queries (COUNT, SUM, etc.).

Evaluation Criteria

Additional Notes
 Students will work in a group of three (3) members.
 Good database design practices must be observed.
 Late submissions will be subject to the penalties outlined in the course syllabus.
