Worksheet Ingles IV
Let’s remember
Past Simple
The past simple shows us that an action was in the past, not in the present.
a) Regular past simple verbs have -ed at the end (e.g. called, played,
arrived).
b) Irregular verbs have a different form, usually with a different vowel
sound (e.g. wake → woke, break → broke, feel → felt).
We make the question form with did and then the subject and infinitive verb.
Past continuous
The past continuous shows us that the action was already in progress at a
certain time in the past.
We were cleaning the house all morning.
We make the past continuous with was or were and the -ing form of the verb.
Exercise 1. Look at Jane's diary. What was she doing at these times? ( Past
constinuos)
Jack and Eve ........................................... (sit) in the hall near the fireplace.
Last year, I broke my hand, I fell while I was going to the dentist. I called my
son. He was teaching a lesson of German at St. George Elementary School, and
I told him the bad news. He took me to the emergency room of Jefferson
Hospital. He helped me to fill out the forms and waited with me and my
husband for one hour. Then he went back to his job. My husband and I were
English. We waited for the doctor for a very long time. Finally, the nurse called
me to a big room. There were many patients. He took my blood pressure and
gave meTylenol, and asked me something. The doctor examined my hand and
took an x-ray. My hand was swollen and I could not move it. I wanted to tell the
doctor, but my English was not good. He said something but I did not
understand. Then, they examined my hand and they put on the cast.
