Focus Area: Mathematics

Objectives:
1. Strengthen teachers’ pedagogical skills in addressing learning gaps in mathematics.
2. Develop and implement effective catch-up strategies for struggling learners.
3. Enhance students’ mathematical comprehension and problem-solving skills through
targeted interventions.
4. Foster collaboration among teachers to share best practices and innovative teaching
strategies.

Activities Conducted:
1. Math Clinics – Small group sessions focusing on foundational math skills.
2. Problem-Solving Challenges – Engaging students in critical thinking exercises.
3. Peer Tutoring – Encouraging collaborative learning through student mentors.
4. Gamified Math Drills – Using interactive games to reinforce learning.
5. Catch-Up Fridays – Dedicated intervention sessions for struggling learners.

Outputs:
 Lesson plans
 Instructional materials
 Assessment tools
Outcomes:
 Improved student performance in fundamental mathematical concepts.
 Increased confidence in solving mathematical problems.
 Strengthened collaboration among teachers in implementing intervention programs.

Best Practices
1. Utilize differentiated instruction to cater to varying student needs.
2. Integrate real-life applications to make math more relatable.
3. Employ technology-based interventions for enhanced engagement.
4. Conduct regular progress monitoring to adjust strategies as needed.

Challenges and Recommendations

 Limited time for intervention sessions.
 Insufficient instructional materials for hands-on learning.

Recommendations:
 Integrate short, targeted math activities into daily lessons.
 Develop a repository of math teaching resources for shared use.
 Collaborate with stakeholders for additional support and resources.
Conclusion
The LAC initiative on strengthening mathematical foundations through Catch-Up Friday
Interventions has provided teachers with effective strategies to address learning gaps. By
fostering collaboration and sharing best practices, educators are better equipped to enhance
student engagement and performance in mathematics. Continuous assessment and
adaptation of strategies will ensure sustained improvement in mathematical literacy and
problem-solving skills.

Minutes of the SLAC Session

Date: November 14, 2024
LAC Name: Strengthening Mathematical Foundations: Equipping Teachers for Effective Catch-
Up Friday Interventions
The School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) session was conducted to enhance teachers’
strategies in addressing learning gaps in mathematics. The session was led by the School
Principal, Mr. Perfecto Palamos, Jr., and facilitated by the Mathematics Coordinator, Mr. Allan V.
Baritua.
Agenda:
1. Discussion on students' challenges in Mathematics
2. Sharing of best practices in intervention strategies
3. Workshop on creating effective Catch-Up Friday lesson plans
4. Planning for continuous monitoring and assessment
During the discussion, teachers highlighted key difficulties faced by students, such as basic
arithmetic weaknesses, low problem-solving skills, and lack of engagement. Strategies such
as gamified drills, peer tutoring, and real-life application activities were explored as solutions.
Teachers then participated in a workshop to design intervention lesson plans focused on these
strategies. Each group presented their plans, receiving constructive feedback for
improvement.
Before concluding, an action plan was developed, with teachers committing to integrate at
least one intervention activity per week and monitor student progress. A follow-up session
was scheduled to evaluate the impact of these interventions.
The session ended with closing remarks from Mr. Palamos, emphasizing the importance of
continuous improvement in teaching methodologies.
Accomplishment Report
The implementation of Catch-Up Friday interventions under the LAC initiative has yielded
positive results. Teachers successfully conducted small group sessions, problem-solving
challenges, and peer tutoring, leading to noticeable improvements in student engagement
and performance.
Key Accomplishments:
 Increased student participation and confidence in math activities.
 Development of creative and interactive teaching strategies.
 Strengthened collaboration among teachers in addressing learning gaps.
Moving forward, continuous assessment and refinement of strategies will ensure sustained
success in mathematics intervention programs.
