Instructor Engr. Judith Dildig

The project involves the modeling and analysis of a five-storey reinforced concrete
school building using MIDAS Gen. The structure is designed to serve educational
functions and consists of five above-ground levels, with a consistent layout across each
floor. The building is intended for educational use, falling under Occupancy Category IV,
which classifies it as an essential facility requiring enhanced design considerations for
seismic and wind loads. The entire building is composed of cast-in-place reinforced
concrete, selected for its strength, durability, and suitability for seismic and gravity load
resistance. The concrete material used is specified as ASTM(RC) with a compressive
strength of Grade C4000, ensuring adequate performance under both service and
ultimate load conditions. Various structural members are defined using solid rectangular
sections: C1 (0.5m × 0.5m) and C2 (0.4m × 0.4m) for columns, G1 (0.5m × 0.3m), G2
(0.45m × 0.3m), and G3 (0.5m × 0.3m) for girders, and B1 (0.45m × 0.25m) for beams.
These sections are consistently assigned throughout the structure to provide a regular
and efficient load path. The overall design follows national standards and reflects
appropriate material behavior, forming a stable and code-compliant system suitable for
educational use.

distribution.
9 Support (Boundary Boundary > Define Supports This tool applies
Condition) constraints at support
points such as fixed or
pinned. It defines how the
structure interacts with
the ground or foundation.
10 Static Loads Load > Static Load > Static It is used to create
load cases different types of load
cases such as dead, live,
and wind loads. These
are essential for
structural design and
analysis.
11 Mass Data Structure > Structure Type This converts the
structure’s weight into
mass for dynamic
analysis. It is necessary
for performing
earthquake load
simulations.
12 Static Load Load > Self-weight, Load > This applies all relevant

supports. It is useful for
foundation design and
overall equilibrium
checks.
21 Deformed Shape Results > Deformations > This shows how the
Deformed Shape and structure moves or
Displacement Contour deforms under loading. It
helps detect weak zones
or excessive
displacements.
22 Beam Forces Results > Forces > Beam This tool generates shear
