📘 Project Outline
Course: Information Systems Analysis and Design
Project Title: Redesigning Business Information Systems Using the SDLC Framework
Objective: Apply the SDLC approach to analyze and improve a company’s information system.

🔖 Project Overview
You are required to select a real business facing challenges due to an outdated or inefficient
information system. Your task is to analyze its problems, propose a new system using the SDLC,
and recommend features, tools, and strategies for improvement.

📋 What You Must Do


1. Introduction (1–2 pages)

 Briefly describe the company (real):


o Name, type (restaurant, clinic, retail, etc.)
o Size, number of employees, basic structure
 State the purpose of the project.

2. Identify Problems (1 page)

 Describe issues in the existing system:


o Manual processes?
o Inventory errors?
o Delay in order or customer service?
o Lack of reporting/analytics?

3. Apply the SDLC Framework

a. Planning Stage (1 page)

 Define project goals


 Scope of the system (e.g., inventory management, sales tracking)

b. Analysis Stage (2–3 pages)

 Identify key users/stakeholders


 Describe how the current system works
 Identify functional and non-functional requirements

c. Design Stage (2–3 pages)

 Outline the system’s main components


 Describe the proposed data flow (use simple DFDs or flowcharts)
 Include at least 3 core modules (e.g., Order Tracking, Reporting, Inventory)

d. Implementation Plan (1 page)

 Suggest development tools (e.g., Excel, Access, web platforms)


 How will training be done?
 Briefly outline a timeline for development and testing

e. Maintenance (½ page)

 Suggest strategies for updates and error handling

4. System Characteristics (1 page)

 Identify:
o Inputs and outputs
o System boundary
o Feedback and control mechanisms
o External environment
o Constraints (budget, time, skills)
5. Subsystem Breakdown (½–1 page)

 Divide the system into logical parts/modules


o Example: Inventory Management, Customer Orders, Billing & Invoicing

6. Development Methodology (½–1 page)

 Choose and justify one approach (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, Prototyping)


 Explain why it suits your case

7. Conclusion and Recommendations (½–1 page)

 Summarize the proposed improvements


 Highlight benefits of the new system
 Mention any limitations or assumptions

📎 Final Deliverables

 Project Report (typed, well-organized, 8–12 pages)


 (5–10) minutes class presentation
