5. According to the Cir. Legis. 4/1976, Even minor accidents (viz., accident
resulting in minor injuries only) which involve 5 or more persons are to be
reported immediately to the D.G.M.S., the Joint Director and the Deputy
Director in-charge of Sub Regions (where they exist) in the same manner as
for a fatal or serious accident stipulated under Regulation 9, giving full
details of the cause of occurrence and other particulars relevant to the
accident.
Heat cramps - This happened when worker drink water to replace the
fluids they loose from sweating, but don’t replace the body’s loss of salts.

Heat rash -Heat rash is body irritation cause due to excessive sweating
during hot or humid weather.
7. As per 10th National Safety Conference, Cold work means any work
which is of non-routine nature so identified by the manager.
11. Permanent or temporary speed limits are set by the Mine Manager.
14. As per 11th National Safety conference, the contractor shall not
employ or terminate his worker without the knowledge of the mine
management.
15. According to the DGMS Cir 01/2015, Heat cramps is a heat related
disorder in which worker may suffer cramp or painful muscle spasms. This
happens when worker drinks water to replace fluid they loose from sweating
but don’t replace the body’s loss of salt.
18. An S wave or shear wave is a seismic body wave that shakes the
ground back and forth perpendicular to the direction the wave is moving.
They can propagate through solid rocks because these rocks have enough
shear strength. The shear strength is one of the forces that hold the rock
together, and prevent it from falling into pieces. Liquids do not have the
same shear strength: that is why, if you take a glass of water and suddenly
remove the glass, the water will not keep its glass shape and will just flow

away. In fact, it is just a matter of rigidity: S-waves need a medium rigid
enough to propagate. Hence, S-waves do not propagate through liquids.
21. As per 10th national safety conferences, ensure that contract of work
should preferably be of longer period (03 years), so that there is adequate
scope of management of safety by the contractor.
22. As per the EIA Notification, 2006 under Environment (Protection) Act,
1986, mining lease area 10 km radius from the boundary limits of the mine
lease area of more than 50 hectares is termed as buffer zone.
28. Resources:-

Muddy areas.
The Chief of ISO should be a senior officer next in rank only to the Director
(Tech.) if any or MD/ the Chief Executive.
The ISO should be a multidisciplinary team and the field setup should start
above the level of mine.
The Safety Officer at the mine level being a specialist staff officer to the Mine
Manager should not be deemed to be part of the ISO.
33. As per DGMS Circular No 36/1972, find the minimum width of the
bench with the following data_
The Height of the bench is 7 m, The boom reach of the machine is 6m , the
tipper plying on the bench, where tipper width is 2.5 m and the widest
machine Volvo- Rx900 working on the bench, where the RX -900 width is
6m.
1. The width of the widest machine plying on the bench plus two meters, or
2. if dumpers ply on the bench three times the width of the dumper, or
3. the height of the bench, whichever is more
So as per point_
1. The width of the widest machine plying on the bench plus two meters=
6+2 = 8 m
Page | 29

47. Exhaust / Retarder braking system in a truck:
There are several ways of stopping a vehicle such as using the normal
brakes, the engine brake or for diesel-powered vehicles; drivers can also use
an exhaust brake. Exhaust brakes can be very efficient in the long run and
it can considerably slow down a vehicle, regardless of its size or weight. Few
properties of exhaust brakes are:-
2. Drivers can rely only on exhaust brakes for stopping their car. Especially
if the vehicle doesn’t have a very high speed, drivers can use only the
exhaust brakes for slowing down and stopping their cars, reducing the
wear and tear on the regular brakes.
4. Exhaust brakes can prevent a vehicle from going downhill too fast.
In a similar fashion, if a driver transports a fifth wheeler, a caravan or a
loaded trailer and he needs to go downhill, the exhaust brake can prevent
the vehicle from going too fast and it reduces the likelihood of an
accident.
Page | 31
FULL SYLLABUS TEST 1
Trucks of different sizes, in particular, can greatly benefit from exhaust
brakes because those vehicles are usually very heavy and they also
transport cargo of large weights. Once the exhaust brakes are installed,
they can make a vehicle safer and more secure on the road and they
minimize the likelihood of putting the car in a ditch or in a tree when
driving on countryside.
52. As per the EIA Notification, 2006 under Environment (Protection) Act,
1986, mining lease areas of 5-50 hectare are classified as Category-B
projects.
54. Run away ramps are provided in haul roads where roads are steep.

number of man days lost is 6000.
1. What happened?
2. How it happened?
3. Why it happened?
And also
58. As per the EIA Notification, 2006 under Environment (Protection) Act,
1986, the mining of minerals with more than 50 hectare of mining lease
area (Asbestos mining irrespective of mining area) are categorized as
Category-A projects.
59. According to the Cir. Tech. 3/1981, Parking brake test- Parking brake
should be capable to hold the vehicle when it is fully loaded and placed at

60. Taking given below data calculate the total manpower of the mine_
61. A high FOS causes low risk of failure by flattening the slope angle. But
it will increase the volume of excavation of overburden rock and hence cost.
Therefore FOS must be kept optimum.
62. The register of leave with wages shall be preserved for a period of two
years after the last entry in them has been made and shall not be destroyed
even after the expiry of that period unless it has been certified by an
Inspector that the leave account therein has been properly transferred to the
new registers.
63. The size of a Foreman’s district will, amongst other things, depend
upon type of mine i.e., an opencast or underground mine; degree of
mechanisation; steepness of workings; nature of working whether
development drives or sloping district etc.
67. Sampling is the process of obtaining a small amount of coal from the
mass in such a way that the consistency of the portion should be the
representative of the whole mass.
68. The point beyond which the mineral cannot be economically extracted
out is called Break even stripping ratio.

70. The cut-off grade is the level below which material within an ore body
does not contain sufficient value to economically justify processing into a
final salable form.
73. According to the Cir 37/1956, Heart failure may be caused in the
natural way or as a result of an injury received while engaged in any
operations connected with mining. In the former case the occurrence cannot
be treated as a mining accident. It is, however, to be appreciated that the
fact of death having been caused due to heart failure can only be established
by means of a post mortem examination of the dead body. Therefore in case
it is felt that death has been caused by heart failure in a natural way and
not as a result of any mining operations whatsoever, then dead body should
invariably be sent for post mortem examination and a copy of the post
mortem report should be submitted to JDMS as soon as possible.
74. Mine means any excavation where any operation for the purpose of
searching for or obtaining minerals has been or is being carried on and

dumper is of 8 m so = 8x3+5 = 29 m
81. In designing opencast mine, bench slope should be equal or less than
that of the angle of repose of the bench rock.
90. Lead time is the time that elapses between the placing of an order
(either a purchase order or a production order issued to the shop or the
factory floor) and actually receiving the goods ordered.
92. Work study may be defined as the analysis of a job for the purpose of
finding the preferred method of doing it and also determining the standard
time to perform it by the preferred (or given) method. Work study, therefore,
comprises of two areas of study: method study (motion study) and time
study (work measurement).
94. Inventory management deals with when to order and how much to
order. It aims to minimize the total cost of inventories so as to generate high
