WRITING TASK 1

 First of all, TASK-1 has to be written in four bodies where the first one is the
"INTRODUCTION", followed by the " OVERVIEW", "Body paragraph-1" and "Body
paragraph-2".

◑ Let's discuss about " INTRODUCTION"

 INTRODUCTION : Just jot down what kind of graph is it and paraphrase the
question/theme as well as time period. So,

Graph Name + compare(s) + stats concerning + question/ theme (paraphrased) +

time period.

e:g: The line graph shows information regarding the number of phones sold in BD by 3
companies from 1950 to 2000.

➤ The line graph compares stats concerning the amount of mobile phones were sold by
3 companies which are Nokia, Apple and LG in Bangladesh between 1950 and 2000.

 Here are some alternatives of words and phrases.

☞ Show = Compare = Provide = Illustrate = Depict = Portray

☞ From ________ to ________. = Between ________ and ________. = Over a period of ________.

☞ In ________. = In the year of ________.

☞ In ________ and ________. = In the years of ________ and ________.

☞ In ________, ________ and ________. = In the years of ________, ________ and ________.

☞ Which are = Namely = ( ).

 Some exercises :

1. The table shows the population ratio of females per 100 males in six different areas
from 1995 to 2005.

2. The line graph below illustrates the result of a British survey on the types of houses
people liked in 2005 and 2008.

3. The line graph below shows the average calorie intake per person in eight countries
between 1980 and 2000.

4. The table chart provides data about the cinema attendance of people on different
days of the week in 2003, 2005 and 2007.

5. The pie charts show the population of three cities in the years of 1990, 2000 and
2030.

6. The bar chart below illustrates the unemployment rate in Ireland and the number of
people leaving the country between 1988 and 2008.

7. The pie charts below show how much money was spent in the budget on different
sectors by the UAE government in 2000 and 2009.

8. The table chart shows the growth in the population in some of the world's largest
cities.

9. The line graph provides data about the number of tourists visiting Malaysia and Dubai
from 1995 to 2003.

10. The line graph below shows the average monthly expenditure on children's sports in
the UK between 2008 and 2014.

11. The pie charts show the changes in sales of four different types of books from 2002
to 2012.

12. The tables below provide information about the consumption and production of
potatoes in five parts of the world in 2006.

13. The table shows the top ten internet users by country in 2016.

14. The line graph below illustrates the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in four countries in
2016 and 2020.
◑ Let's learn "OVERVIEW"

 OVERVIEW : In overview, the graph needs to be described factually. Sometimes, when

there is more than one graph, there is a relationship between these two and some
comparisons can be brought in between them.

In overview, firstly, TREND ( which increase & which decrease ) and HIGHEST &
LOWEST POINT should be mentioned.

Overall, it is evidently audited from the ______ that + theme + TREND. In addition,
HIGHEST POINT and LOWEST POINT.

e:g: Overall, it is evidently audited from the line graph that the sale of Nokia and LG
increased while for Apple, it decreased. In addition, Apple sold the highest amount of
phones in 1970 whereas the lowest was by LG in 1950.
 Here are some vocabularies of different types of graphs.

[ Line, Bar, Pie & Table chart oriented vocabularies. ]

☞ [GO UP] - Increase = Rise = Grow = Escalate = Surge = Climb (up) = Sky rocket.

☞ [GO DOWN] - Decrease = Fall (down) = Drop = Decline = Plummet.

☞ [NO CHANGE] - Remain stable = Remain unchanged = Remain same = Stabilize

Level off.

☞ [UP AND DOWN] - Fluctuate.

☞ ADVERB - Slowly = Slightly = Minimally = Marginally.

Gradually = Moderately.

Rapidly = Sharply = Significantly = Dramatically = Substantially.
