We swear that this is the original work of the authors. All information obtained directly
or indirectly from other sources has been fully acknowledged.
A single stage centrifugal pump driven independently by a variable speed motor. Gate
valve for regulating flow rate. Pressure and torque transducers. Revolution counter. Flow
meter.
Procedure: (Can be in point from, the methodology used to conduct the experiment,
with no repetition of like steps needed)
Record the suction, discharge pressure, flow rate and input torque at constant speed for
varying flow rates. Also record the pump speed.
Theory:
(A short section with relevant background, equations and illustrations – say one
paragraph of text, excluding illustrations)
Results:
(This is just a statement of the results in tabular and graphical format, with no discussion)
[Insert Graph]
c) Plot published H-Q, P-Q and theoretical -Q curves to compare with (b) above
(each pair of experimental versus published/theoretical curves to be placed on
separate axes).
[Insert Graph]
d) Note that the speed of theoretical pump curves needs to be adjusted to the speed
of the experimental curves (or vice versa) by using the affinity laws.
Discussion: (This is the most important part of the report)
Note:
All the above sections need to expanded upon and written up in your words - the format
(e.g. theory, conclusions, recommendations, references and appendices are omitted here)
above serves only as a guide.
In-text references, including those of illustrations must be used correctly throughout the
report, using the Harvard method only.
All graphs to be drawn manually first, before any computer generated graphs are drawn.
All manually drawn graphs to be included in appendices, if computer graphs are included
in body of report.
A conclusions section is a requirement of any laboratory report; recommendations are
advisable – often the conclusions and recommendations can be combined into one
section.
Use Times New Roman (12 pitch) or Arial (11 pitch), single spacing only
